where is the bascule bridge on your layout?  on a mainline?  is there a way to detour around should the unit fail to operate?  any related scenery elements (tugboat, harbor, etc)?

It was a challenge on my smallish layout. Ended up putting it flat against the wall, with some mirror-magic:

My heart is warm with the friends I make,

And better friends I'll not be knowing;

Yet there isn't a train I wouldn't take,

No matter where it's going.

Normally it would be put over a waterway and lifted when boats/ships came along.

This one is over the Erie canal for rail traffic.

This pair over the Buffalo River also for rail traffic. The one in the foreground (up position) was taken out of service many years ago.

This one over the Black Rock Canal in Buffalo for vehicle traffic.
