There was another thread on this subject (https://ogrforum.ogaugerr.com/d...ent/5512461224629925). I don't have the SD50, so I'm not sure about how close the pilot is to the truck's three-rail coupler mount, but on by SD70ACe and C40-8W's, I used Kadee 805's (you can also use the all plastic 804's) and cut off the back end of the coupler box and lid about 1/8" with a Dremel. The coupler mount on the truck clears by a hair and there's no binding during operation.

 

You can actually shave a little more off. Just put the coupler in the box, push it all the way in and shave the box at the back end of the coupler shank.

 

The other coupler option is the Kadee 806. While you don't have to do any modifications, the short shank of this particular coupler will not let you operate the locomotive on O-72 curves. All of mine can go through 36" radius curves (O-72) while coupled to each other and to Kadee-equipped freight cars.
