3rd Rail will not be at York outside of some posters and flyers.  With the Delta Variant not quite done running its course, the decision was made to postpone a trip to York until April at the earliest.  I'd like to say I could make the April York, but I am scheduled for 2 weeks on the Rocky Mountain Explorer and the Canadian at the end of April with my lovely wife.  Priorities.

There apparently will be a lot of open space in the Orange Hall, in particular, this time around. That will certainly be a sad thing to see after all these years, but it is perfectly understandable in light of real world events that continue to make planning very difficult for a variety of reasons.

And somehow I'll still manage to have a good time.  Go figure.

I believe Hennings Trains will not be at York per their Sunday show posted on youtube. Covid and time conflicts being the reason.

Turns out that Lansdale Days was postponed from the summer to the weekend of the York Meet.  Since Bill is on the town council, he has to be there.  I think the fact that COVID is still a factor is also weighing on their decision.  I was just the last to know.

Lionel will be back!  And we've got plenty of new things to show off and should have a sneak peek at something brand new and exciting too. The team here is excited to get on the road again.  It's been a long time since we've been to a show and we miss the atmosphere.  We've taken the layout out of storage for a tune up and a good dusting, started pulling together product lists and working up posters and product cards, and securing final travel arrangements. For those who can come, we look forward to seeing you.  For those that can't for one reason or another we certainly understand and we'll see you down the line. This one will be a little different to be sure and we've adapted to the times as well, but it's all about what you make of it.  And we intend on making it a York to remember fondly.  See you soon!

I guess we'll be spending a lot of time at Lionel.

Don’t know if this was discussed, but is the MTH parts booth going to be there?  Need some traction tires.

I would be a bit surprised if they're there, they're up to their butts in alligators trying to get the parts site all squared away.  You do realize you can simply go on the MTH order site and order the tires, right?

Thanks JOHN.  Yes I do realize that MTH has the parts department going.  But in the past at YORK you could get the traction tires for a buck apiece.

We regret that we will not be attending the York show. It is the first miss for us going back to the 60's when it was held in the Guernsey Pavilion on Rt. 30 . Bill is highly involved in Lansdale's rain delayed "Founders Day" program for that weekend, culminating w/ a huge fireworks show across the street from our shop. We are short handed as is, let alone providing personnel for York. My son Harry III is just getting over his cancer battle, Walt is just recovering from Covid 19, and leaves only yours truly at 78.  I put in 50-60 hours a week keeping the parts up, & shipping.  I need my boys to do the York show, and it ain't happening this year!!   I will miss all of our contacts attending, but I am sure we will attend in the spring. If any of you are in the area Saturday, stop by and watch the fireworks.

Sincerely, Harry Jr., Harry III, Bill, Tom ( my brother ), Ron, Stephanie, Walt, Debbie, Zach, Bill Jr., and Tyler.

It doesn’t matter what dealers won’t be at York.  I’ll just buy from those that are there and still have a great time!!  Simple.

You and me both!  I'm just not getting upset about less dealers.  I will be out of the house, among friends, among trains, and having a good time.  I already pledge to myself to make sure I spend some money on the vendors that do show up and making sure I pay closer attention to the member halls.

To the vendors not coming, I completely get it, and I'll see you in the spring hopefully.  As of now 21 days and change!  Woo Hoo!

I'll spend less money on closeouts - have too many unopened boxes of bargains from previous meets anyway.  Looking forward to a less-rushed atmosphere.  Hope it will be good for the remaining vendors.

Yep, I'll probably get more time to stroll through the member halls, sometimes there are some real bargains there.   Who knows, this just might end up being a great York meet!  Any York meet is a good one, hoping for something extra.

I promise not to talk your ear off John. Since you'll be moving around, it may be hard to find you to do that.

Regardless, any York is a great York in my opinion. I get to stroll around and admire all there is to see, and talk too much most of the time. Don't know how much will be in my spending block, but that is okay too as I don't really need much. Heck, maybe I'll bite on some old tinplate stuff that I always walk around admiring this time around.

My dear friend Jack Pearce, the master of lighting passenger cars and vehicles, will not be there. It will be the first York Meet that Jack will have missed in many, many years. This is not by his choice, of course. It is because of the ridiculous US border restrictions for Canadians.

Ridiculous?  Can't keep politics out of anything, no matter how hard you try can you?

Get well soon Roger!

Is a mask requirement a possibility? I didn't see that on the EDTCA website. I am guessing there won't be a mask requirement. Too bad as I really really really want to go but have decided against it. A requirement would get me thinking twice.

I think that this had been discussed on a prior thread. I believe it was at the time up to the discretion of the individual, but as others have stated before, things may change. I would suggest calling the EDTCA and see what they say. They will give you some kind of answer and may say exactly what I just said with a "stay tuned" attached. Regardless, see what comes.

You can certainly wear a mask if you like, and I'm sure a lot of folks will indeed be so equipped.

No need to call.  It's posted on the ED TCA site.  No mask requirement as of now.

I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled then.

I have a feeling there will be many people looking at each other's chests for the name on your York badge or stitched on your shirt this year.  My wife said now we'll know how she feels when she goes out.    I know you'll have to look at my chest as I'll have a mask on.

FWIW, I did get email confirmation from both Charles Ro and Nicholas Smith that they will NOT be at this October York.

Our group will still be there and enjoy the meet.  There will be plenty of things to do and spend our money on.  An excellent chance to concentrate on the member halls for a lot of gems to purchase.  Just looking forward to the "immersion" of the York event.

Mike:

Chill out. My comment had nothing to do with politics, so your characterization of my comment is what's political. I could care less who made the rule. The rule is in fact ridiculous for fully vaccinated Canadians like Jack. BTW, your comment about Canada keeping most Americans out of Canada is also totally false. Have a nice day.

I can't predict the future, but Pennsylvania is similar to NJ with how Delta is hitting it so I suspect in the three weeks until York there won't be a mask mandate. If it follow the pattern around here in NJ, they may 'encourage' mask wearing. One note (and this is just for information and it is relevant to the discussion), recent things I have read coming from studies said that even if other are not wearing a mask/face covering it does reduce risk for the person wearing it. Giving this is also coming near cold and flu season, wearing a mask may not be a bad idea anyway

I have just ordered some scenery material from Scenic Express.  They have just moved to Colorado and they said they will NOT be at YORK.

I knew Jim had a home in Colorado, but did not realize he had permanently moved there. His store in PA has been closed. We will certainly miss him at the York Meet. My understanding is that he will be at the Amherst Train Show in January.

Since Scenic Express is planning to be at Amherst in January, would it be correct to assume that they will return to York in the future?  (I sure hope so.)

I was hoping that wouldn't be the case but figured it might.  I'll be at the scenery stage of my layout by York and was planning on buying a bunch of stuff from him.    Moving anywhere is an undertaking let alone across the country.

The Orange Hall, in particular, is shaping up to be a very interesting place this time around. One hunch I have though:

There will be a good many TCA members coming to this October York event because they have been cooped up and away from friends and the "train scene" for going on two years or more. Those manufacturers/suppliers/dealers who DO show up will likely do especially well at this meet because there will be hobbyists there with money to spend. Most folks will not want to leave York with their wallets still full, even if everything they might have been looking/hoping for can't be found.

I had the same feeling, it'll be a good York for some vendors, and it's always a good York for me.

Hi Folks,

I have been waiting since August 1st for a mover to show up moving me from Buckeye, AZ to Buffalo NY.  I JUST got word they will come and pack me up October 14th.  It this holds true, I will head for Buffalo pulling my 15' cargo trailer, with a 4 day 2400 mile drive to look forward to, probably leaving by the 16th.  So time will be tight for my drive to York and finding a Hotel room.  Regardless, I will hopefully be attending my first York since I moved to Buckeye about 14 years ago.  Look forward to meeting old friends, once again.  Oh, I am not pre-registered, so I will have to register at the meet.

It is nice to see folks like Gunrunner john posting positive posts about the event.  Maybe I'll bump into Allan M, and we can once again compare how our hearts are doing :-)

I'm up to 9 stents now, but still am VERY thankful for every new sunrise I get to witness!

Don't know what I might be looking for, but it won't be $141.00 cabooses! :-)

So if I make it, just say Hi if you see me!

This old ticker of mine is holding up well since the six bypasses it had in 2000. My cardiologist says everything is consistent in my annual visits to him, and I've been seeing the same doc for some 15 years now. Like you, I'm just thankful for every day I am given. Hope to see you at York!

I have two good York questions:

1.   Will the OGR gold hall (grandstand) meeting be held?

2. Will the Quaker Steak and lube get together take place?

I know the LCCA Dutch treat dinner at Smokey Bones is cancelled

I can't really answer that yet because nothing has been finally determined. Depends on how things shape up over the next week or so. I imagine the Quaker Steak get-together can be held on Thursday evening regardless of any formal arrangement (folks just show up), but Ed would have to respond in regard to any grandstand meeting. He has had more than his share of health concerns in recent months, so we will just have to see how things develop. Another concern for that meeting would, of course, be related to how many manufacturers/suppliers actually are available at York AND able to participate in such a meeting. Folks need to understand that this York will likely be unlike any other held in recent years, for fairly obvious reasons.

I think I read somewhere that they added another hall (Yellow hall) . I don’t see it on the map. I assume its to accommodate the social distancing guidelines.  Where is it located and why would they add another hall if the orange hall is not going to be full?

I believe the Yellow Hall is under the grandstands.  This hall was reportedly used prior to the construction of the Orange Hall, which was before I started attending York.

Allan:

Great point. Totally agree.

Each vendor has to make their own decision on whether or not to attend York.  The status of the pandemic in PA to include using/not using masks, and return on investment (how many people will actually show up for the effort/cost of attending).  A smaller business would be greatly hurt if one of its employees contracted the virus, so I am sure that is the primary reason for not attending.

I am a TCA member and tired of being cooped up and not seeing train friends, and have my Oct 21-23 yellow pass.  But reading this forum (not just this topic) and seeing how many here do not plan to wear a mask to keep the Delta variant in check bothers me enough that I am no longer going.  I work with children so I am very cautious.

Maybe more vendors, who would be face-to-face with hundreds of folks every day, would have attended if they knew there would be a mask requirement and other controls in place.  Guess we will never know.

Sure sounds like a different York than all others I have attended. And I haven't missed one since 1993. I am on the "time to get rid of stuff" side of this hobby, with no compulsion to do it quickly. I enjoy the camaraderie at York. I will no longer be going to the Spring York meets because we will be in FL then.

I think that looking at the ROI on a specific show is a red herring (false measurement) for manufacturers and dealers. Lionel does not sell at York and MTH sold only parts. So they weren't there to sell. Relationships with customers are important and those get cemented and broken at events like York. Good will is also an important factor for any business enterprise. I understand the risks of COVID and the importance of having healthy employees. You cannot open your doors or ship product with people who are out sick.

I am looking forward to York. And while I am on the "get rid of stuff" side of the hobby, if I see something I really want...........
