Like Pete says, wait for the other shoe to drop.  Nobody here has any idea what Lionel did with the parts, or what the future holds.  My Crystal Ball is out for repair, I'm hoping to get it back soon.

Hopefully you didn't send your Crystal Ball out to Lionel to repair it. You might have a long wait. They'll probably say no boards in stock to fix that either.

It would be great if Lionel would make 3D printable files available for parts they no longer stock.

That would be very useful. Has anyone asked Lionel that question?

... Simply offset the cost by not purchasing new Lionel….

Since Lionel has now become (by default) the most reliable supplier among the major manufacturers, this means I won't be buying any new trains - after all of the quality and parts issues, I'm OK with that.

Just curious, since your signature says that you're an ERR dealer - how, if at all, is the availability of ERR components affected by this?

Scott posted a fairly long post recently in the R2LC/R2LC Boards Are No Longer Available, What Do I Do? thread, he has stock of all his products for the near future.  Obviously, that can change when he goes back to the well to do another production run.

Just some information from Microchip  Regarding the 16F648 PIC, the newer device available is the 16F18444.  Know that the PIC16F648 is coded as an MPASM and the PIC16F18444 is coded as an MPIDE X.  That means it is not a drop in part.  The ASM has to be migrated over the IDE X.  This can be a daunting task.  It also requires a PICkit 4 for programming.

So let's see what the Big L solution turns out to be.
