Just completed this Williams upgrade and thought I would post some pictures.  Upgrade to PS-2 with smoke added to both Lead and Trail A unit.  Interesting upgrade on a traditionally NON Tethered Engine.

Also the solid fuel tank had to be drilled so the speaker could be added to the fuel tank to make room for the smoke unit.  Had to drill the pilot to allow the coupler wires to pass through, but the MTH couplers fit fine.

Used a slave board in the Trail for smoke, light, coupler control.  G

Nice to see this work being done.  I purposely have stayed away from Williams engines because everything I run is command control from one system or another.  While it isn't much of an issue for me, what did you use for voice sounds for this installation?  And then the big question is:  How much would such an installation cost?  Could you install DCS in one of Williams ten-wheelers?

Paul Fischer

MTH Has a series of sound files.  I used an appropriate FA-2 LV file which matches this engine.

Paul I did do the 4-6 Baldwin and used the 10 Wheel sound file.  It has a horizontal motor, but did have a flywheel.  Some inventive mounting of the tach reader, but it ran very nice.  One issue was smaller boiler that would not allow a standard fan driven smoke unit.  I also retained the Williams harness.

E-mail me for quotes.  G

No, I used the same grounding method to the motor bracket.  G
