I have a brass Williams Niagara that I want to have converted to tmcc  with sound, but I  have all thumbs when it comes to anything to do with electricity or electronics. who do you guys recommend out there to send this to too have it converted over. I don't care that much about cost as long as its within reason. thanks for the input. by the way I read all of the forums about the trouble with the Lionel Niagara 's with the bad gear boxes hope you guys find an answer and replacements for the gears makes me worry about other locos made by Lionel that might have with similar gear problems.

We had our weekly Train Club meeting last night, and one of the members brought in a 1996 MTH 2-6-6-6   PS-1.

He had just finished the change over to the MTH PS-3 Kit. This engine now has the loudest system, as well as, the best "Hooter" Whistle that I've heard.

I have one of those models, as well. I'm going to get our local MTH Technician to install one of these in mine.

Now, if you already have TMCC control system, you probably ought to think about ERR, as I understand that their new system is better compared, to the Old Lionel TMCC/Odeyssey System, also has better slow speed control using their Cruise Commander.

I guess that after hearing the PS-3 system last night, I'm that's my choice!...... Although either system would be good, but with MTH the task of 4 chuffs per revolution would be easier, or so I've been told.

He has 4 chuffs per revo, fan driven smoke unit,  also quilling whistle, using a soft key on the hand held controller, then you quill the whistle with the thumb wheel!.....................................and it do sound fantastic, but just my opinion

I'm thinking that Barry said the PS-3 kit was $155.00 dollars + shipping........................Forgot about the labor, but check out Marty's address, as I would say he could do it for you as good as anybody in the business!.........................Brandy!

1 - there are instructions with any ERR kit; very straightforward.

2 - the Lionel Niagara (I have it) is the only one known to have this Achilles heel of a gearbox; also, my understanding is that the builder of this loco was not their usual contractor; don't know for sure.

3 - back to #1: I have a Williams Niagara which I converted to ERR Cruise Commander and sound. Runs beautifully, and the Wms loco has sufficient detailing, if not up to current expectations. Mine has been weathered and, I feel, looks really sharp. Can't find a photo of it. Now, the Williams (or anyone's) Niagara is not the place to start learning about ERR upgrading. It was problematic; you need to be familiar with some of the idiosyncrasies of upgrading metal (brass or zinc) steam locos - and I'm not a newbie at this, by any means. So, get someone else to do it; will ERR do it for you? (At a price, of course.) I know many on the forum do this work for a fee. You'll love the way it runs. The Williams Samhongsa-built scale brass steamers seem to be built like tanks.

I just did one for a friend. If you can live with Seuthe smoke its very easy because you can use the existing tether. If you want fan smoke you will need to replace the tether and fabricate a mount for the smoke unit. I drilled a hole in the coal load, laid a wire over the coal for the antenna and covered with more coal. The tender is already drilled for switches and speakers.
