Anybody who knows Williams PA (before Bachmann) can hopefully tell me why the non-powered A unit has a plug in it. I have no clue what it would power.

That is a standard part they have been using for years. You could plug the early sound system they used into it. Great wiring available to use with any current sound system.
I would think you'd be scratching your head over the roller pickups on the trucks long before you got to the wire inside. It doesn't even have lights, right?
The plug was for the first True sounds sound system. It was the Ott sound boards with the male molex plug that plugged into the wire harness. The sound was always EMD f unit with a single chime horn and a dialog that stated: 1648 departing.... 1648 clear on track two. The diesel roar at the time was unique because it reved with the increase or decrease of power to the track. I am sure someone has it on YouTube. They are simple robust sound units.
I bet finding the molex male plug you could plug in the Wbb True Blast II sound now available from WBB dealers!

I believe they all have headlight bulbs. Had a chance to purchase one of those Ott sound systems and gave it to a friend for his units. Nice piece.

I have that sound system in a early A-B-A Southern set of F units I have by Williams actually to me a lot better than what they went to after that. Not sure what Bachmann new system is as have not heard it but I did not like the preset crossing I would of rather just had a regular horn/whistle with bell like the rest did at first. I like to blow my horn/whistle how I want not a preset.
