Using what you have Lionel

2. More eight door 86' Autoparts Box Cars - D&TSL, IC or ICG and EL

The K LINE injection molds are apparently being held by Bachmann Trains in CHINA.

The people at LIONEL would need to get the plans for an EVANS PRODUCT covered steel coil car and make an all new car.

Since they just acquired the MTH O scale covered steel coil car, that might be a bit difficult to make happen.

The LIONEL guys would most likely have to put the PENN CENTRAL scheme on both the Standard O 42' gondola with angled coil covers and the new O scale round cover steel coil car.

I am highly irritated that Bachmann is not yet including the Evans covered steel coil car made for K-Line in the Williams O scale line.

The box cars are described as 8-Door 86' High-Cube Boxcars.

The Detroit & Toledo ShoreLine reporting marks are D&TS.

Andrew - As aways it's great to learn and look at things from different angles.

Please help me understand the differences between the KLine gondolas, produced by Lionel in DT&I and Ford a few years ago and the following:

Additional question - saw earlier response first - how did Lionel get at least one run of the old KLine coil cars, DT&I, Ford and possibly others??? then lose rights to tooling?  Just curious.  Thanks, Jim

The K-Line by LIONEL agreement ended when Bachmann had all of the other model railroad companies move their production of the Sanda-Kan factory about 10 years ago.

Sure… and add in some Canadian military freight cars as well.

Now that you've mentioned foreign military cars, Lionel made a NATO flatcar with a British submarine in the past.... Why not go the extra mile and add some military equipment from other nations that we've fought alongside with or even against for the heck of it? Have a 6 pack of cars with one tank from each of the major nations that fought in WW2 (America, England, Russia, Germany, Japan, Italy) with some addon packs featuring other vehicles from these nations like tank destroyers or halftracks.

During the Canadian Pacific's  CP Rail Multimark era they had a division called CP Transport and CP Express & Transport.

The CP Transport scheme can be applied to the O scale 40' trailers with reefers or refrigerator units.

A few photos as examples on this web page.

https://www.pwrs.ca/view_product.php?ProductID=225975

http://whiteriverdivision.blogspot.com/2020/07/

The regular CP Rail scheme can also be applied to the O scale 40' trailers

The CN Piggback scheme from the 1970's needs to be put on the O scale 40' trailers

Feel like beating a dead horse, but I'm still holding out for B36-7's with kinematic pilots and scale coupler mounting pads, and a set of NJ Transit Arrow-series MU railcars (multiple phases, too). Maybe Lionel got the MTH tooling for the L-series NYC Mohawks? Those might be nice to see with LEGACY.

For a more realistic expectation though, maybe a rerun of the Pennsylvania M1A/M1B - the latter hasn't been seen since 2008 - and the Dreyfuss Hudson with multiple tender and deco variants. Still holding out for a rerun of the F-19e Chesapeake & Ohio George Washington 4-6-2 Pacific's, too...

I'd really like to see them do some innovative accessories and operating cars.  As much as I'd like them to have Legacy in them, it seems the cost ins't worth it so I'll take  conventional operating accessories that are new and creative.  New tooling or creative use of existing in booth cars and other trackside accessories.

YES!

I mentioned this earlier elsewhere because accessories really do make it a "LIONEL" (in the old-time sense) three-rail, fun layout.

Legacy would certainly be a bonus, if do-able.

Hey, Ryan!  Hey, Dave!

Agreed on the Dreyfuss that seems like a nobrainer with the MTH tooling. Would love to see a C&O F-19 rerun with a better whistle! I haven’t pulled the trigger on the prior version for that reason

It would be cool if they did a run of B&O P7 Pacifics and at least offered the option of any of the 20 Presidents.  I don't know if all of them would get enough orders, but it would be cool to have the option.  If they really wanted to swing for the fences, they could also offer the streamlined versions.

I'm an NYC guy, but I'd open up my wallet for a President Grant and one of the streamlined versions (any road #)

One MPC reefer in my rolling stock inventory is the Red Lobster reefer from the Burger King "set". It is one of my favorites. I wouldn't mind seeing a 57 foot mechanical reefer that is decorated for Red Lobster.

I would also like to see 57 foot mechanical reefers decorated for Coca Cola. A Google search for Coca Cola reefers turns up all sorts of fantastic schemes; especially LGB's but others too.

I would also like to see 57' mechanical reefers for PepsiCo, Sprite, Dr Pepper, Tab, Jolt, and many others. A lot of potential fun in that.

In addition to popular soft drinks one could do the fast food chains and other restaurants.

The RoadRailer 53' trailers on bogies and standard 53' Trailers were transferred from Bowser to Weaver Models, then all of Weaver Models cars made in the USA were turned into the LionScale line made in the USA.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway

Santa Fe

Canadian National

Hub Group

EMP

J.B.HUNT

How about a run of steel mill cars? I could use some slag cars and one more hot metal car three pack.

And as an added bonus, I wish they would raid the Pollock archives and do some different styles of the cars. There are some very interesting cars that were made in the early 1900s. The number of small parts would probably make for an eye-popping price per car but it's all for a good cause

I for one would like to see the Lionelville Firehouse and Big Bay lighthouse accessories, as well as the 'Mainline' signals they had.

I mentioned this once before, but how about a modular signal system integrated into Fastrack. The track would have a similar design to the Defect Detector, with sensors in the trackbed, and a socket that one could 'plug in' the style of signal they want.

DTS extended-vision caboose

DTS ACF CENTER FLOW  2700 cu ft 2-bay covered hopper

Have it be possible to built a Detroit & Toledo ShoreLine train in one year.

What I want to see more than anything (please don’t laugh to hard)  Is a Lionel Legacy GE EVOLUTION HYBRID .. does anyone think Lionel will ever produce this guy again? What’s the chance ?? It’s a bucket list item. I absolutely must own one. I would love to purchase I new one. I’m sure I’m not the only one out there. What do you guys think the chances are? Thoughts ??

A NYC woodsided caboose with details that we are used to seeing. The overall 80’s designed caboose is okay. A diecast chassis, Kadee ready, scale handrails, brake wheel,  separately applied grab irons, scale Tomar like lanterns or none at all,  more scale sized window panes, perhaps an interior, figures, scaled ladders and newer trucks. I’m not condemning smoke to those that like it. I’d rather have a scale size stack and an interior. Offer a few different coopola’s for other roads that had similar styled ones. Such as the Rutland, CV and Boston and Albany.

For all the L2a’s, B&A Berkshires and Mikado’s. Nobody has ever done a nice caboose. They all have flaws. They tooled up a beautiful bay window for the diesels. You either have to 3 rail a brass one or pay a hefty price for a Mullet River one and build your own.

You’ve made some really nice prototype engines. Make a quality detailed caboose to bring up the rear.

Lionel did a custom run of the GE ES44AC #2010 Hybrid about a year or two ago for Nassau Hobby Center. They sold out pretty quick so you never know, maybe Lionel will do them again with the next run of ES44’s but it may be a few years since ES44AC’s were in the most recent catalog…

Ditto on this.  I have one kit bashed B&A caboose from Dave.  More are needed on my pike

I doubt it'd sell well but I really wanna see this be re-released. And it's already so outlandish that the inevitable 5 fantasy paint jobs wouldn't be an issue

What a hoot!  If they make this a LionChiefPlus 2.0 model for under $400 (like the Doodlebugs in the current catalog) it would be very popular.  Imagine the sounds that they would put in this thing!  It would be a great crowdpleaser.  And of course, the SF Warbonnet livery would look great on that (as it does on just about everything else),

Ooooh I didn't even think of Warbonnet! NYC original, Rock Island Rocket (which I think was a redeco with the original), and Warbonnet would be perfect. Maybe a US army redeco with a shark nose decal would be cool too but that one seems like a bit of a stretch.

A nice old fashioned streetcar or interurban would be great.  Legacy preferably or Lion chief Plus 2.0 at least.  Nothing bumper-to-bumper, conventional, or only 1 truck!  'Woodsided' and to scale would be a plus!

MTH has their Semi-convertible Brill and PCC (released in PS1 through 3), so.....

I guess I will keep pushing for the rest of the AFT cars.

-Lionel already made the Exit Car/Power Car #111.  They can use this mold to make the Power/Bunk car #200.

-The AFT's Showcase Cars would require new tooling, so we may never see these.  But it would sure be nice.  Same tooling for two cars, and everyone that bought the display cars would want these.

-Lionel does not have a long flatcar, so they could make the F85C flatcar used on the AFT.  Many roads used this car so there should be a market.

-Lionel's Entrance/Control Car #100 is entirely wrong, but could be used for the two storage cars that accompanied the train, #33 and #34.

Lionel - you made the display cars, a power car, and the crew cars.  How about the rest of the train.

The classic little Rugged Rails DASH 8 is a better choice for operation with the O gauge freight cars because the proportions are a closer match.

The GE DASH 9 is extremely tall compared to even O scale freight cars.

Andrew

I feel like I asked for this without realizing the TMCC rotary plow turbines were actually new but Lionchief Rotary Turbines or the Army/Navy Turbine would still be a pretty sweet miniature engine, especially with the load of new army stuff in 2022 V1's traditional section. Granted the 44 tonners fill the same role but these little turbines are just cool imo.

@MartyE posted:

A lot of wishing here.  Now how many will actually buy what they asked for if produced?

I'd commit to buy the AFT cars.

I'd also commit to buy the MTH version of the PRR A5 if ever produced again.  I wonder who has the molds?  (NOTE: unless I can get the hard to find PS3 version first)

No commitment on anything else right now because of too many economic and life variables.
