There is quite a future for the Chargers if that is what Lionel is making - to which I totally agree that there is a good chance that they are.  Why make a new mold of an old model when they can make a new mold of a model that has years of life ahead.

I'm not sure this line of thinking follows.  Yes, the Genesis is being phased out, but that's part of the reason I want a Legacy version (I am considering the 3rd Rail version, dependent on paint scheme).

I'm now at the point of having disposable income (mid-20's) and while I've always been a steam guy, I want a model of the train I rode into NYC on as a kid (Metro North, with a Genesis).  I assume that others of my generation want models of what they rode behind as a kid: the Genesis.

there will be lots of Norfolk and western for sure

so how bout a fantasy norfolk and western tier 4 coal train set

For sure! Ryan Kunkle said in a FB Trainworld live stream recently that there’ll be lots of rolling stock to go with the new N&W A’s! He hinted at VL Rolling Stock as well as Passenger cars. I’m wondering if they’ll finally be some 21” N&W passenger cars since they’ve already done the Heavyweights a year or two ago…

I’d also like to see a return of Legacy Cranes with matching Boom Cars w/sound! It’d be sweet to get one in a Norfolk & Western scheme!

Sure! I love the idea of non-prototype scale trains as well as scale fantasy trains.

yeah the fantasy fallen flag schemes on modern equipment is the best because its like we can pretend that mergers never happened and the N&W soldiered on as an independent system into the 21st century. If mergers never happened i would see the original Norfolk Southern and Atlantic Coastline run less than a mile from my house all through Greenville maybe even the seaboard as well.

hopefully some N&W diesels as well like maybe a HI hood GP35 in N&W paint who knows maybe i could find a norfolk and Western item that fits my limited budget

It might be a stretch since Lionel is of course doing their A class and they probably don't wanna detract from it as well as the fact they did them in Scale a few years back, but I would absolutely love to see a Lionchief J class.

If for some reason this is a repost, then I would also like to see some Lionchief versions of the 41 Army turbine switcher or any of it's repaints or snowplow variants. I know they have the tmcc versions of these but if we're all just throwing ideas here I figured this would be a cool one to suggest.

Yeah I'm sure with the 8-9% inflation rate, supply chain issues, and more,  we're bound to see prices lowered...

From what I can see the prices of comparable products from Atlas and MTH are about the same as their Lionel counterparts. Yet, it seems like Lionel is the only company expected to “lower their prices.” 🤔

Sticking with the Lionel catalog wish list:

- Real Railroad names on scales locomotives and rolling stock that didn’t exist in real life, what I call non-prototypical road names.

- Some true fantasy scale locomotive and rolling stock. Lionel offers scale Polar Express items, how about a 100 ton scale Dilithium crystal hopper like the traditional sized Dilithium crystal quad hopper just released? That would be cool! Or a Legacy scale Phantom?

Guys....I am going to ask that you not discuss the so called "leak" of the upcoming Lionel Catalog here on the forum.  Traditionally Lionel askes us to wait to discuss specifics AFTER the catalog has been sent out and their promotion begins in the magazine.  We have honored that except this time, the leak came from our Digital version of the magazine which came out just a day or two ago.  The Digital Magazine always comes out before the print version however this time we are a little early.  We should not have included the Lionel information in the Digital until the print version went out but frankly tripped over this one!  So, at the request of Lionel, we have corrected the problem in the Digital edition for now.  We ask that discussion about this "leak" be taken off the forum.  I will leave this thread open to the original topic focus.

Thanks!

I've been continuing research for my layout and I would love to see Lionel start venturing into more niche products. It wouldn't quite be realistic but something like a "flying ingot", which was a narrow gauge tank engine with a specific odd look. This one, obviously, wouldn't be narrow gauge. But I would be willing to overlook that haha ingot buggys would be cool. So would a hopper with the wooden sides added to the top for extra volume to carry coke instead of coal.

It's just tough because that requires new tooling and it would likely not be a huge seller. I feel like the initial cost of new stuff is such a tough hurdle to clear. It's a bummer. I encounter it in my own job and it's often disappointing.

One thing I’d think would be cool is some O-72 FasTrack curves with the Christmas lights in them. The ones out now are a nice addition to put around the tree, but it’d be nice to run larger engines that can’t handle O-36 curves on a Christmas themed layout around the Holidays. Plus a reissue of the Legacy Polar Express Berkshire with more scale heavyweight passenger cars would be nice too 👍
