Gary, when you log into the LuCi web interface this info will appear on the first screen you see.

Well the plot is still under way....

What is a LuCi and how do you log into the LuCi?   I found my TIU • WIU • Handheld Controller and my iPhone with the MTH Premium App.  At the end of the day, Where is the LuCi?

Part 2: Can I find the WIU version number in the Premium App?

Help: Gary

Part1:

This can be done on a smart phone but it will be easier on a laptop that is connected to your WIU.

Follow the directions included in the DCS WiFi user manual: https://mthtrains.com/sites/de...ction/50as13515i.pdf

Follow steps 1 - 8 on pages 9 & 10 to see the above screen.

Part2:

Not yet. (but possibly someday).

"What is LuCi?"

It is the web interface that allows you to interact with the software (operating system) that runs the WIU.  *** Edited ***

Just a little clarification that may help.  LuCi is web interface for the WIU.  As I've mentioned before, the WIU is a customized router that we taught to speak DCS.  Most all modern routers have a web interface, a screen you can connect to, to change the network name, password, and do more advanced network configuration.

For the WIU, LuCi is what we call the web interface.

Thanks H1000 for helping explain things and providing the link to the instructions.

I was merely responding to A1Hobo since he had already accessed LuCi in order to update his firmware.

BEEN THERE & DONE ALL THIS • Well my IT man has, he has the PC. I am a Mac User/ Still no proof this all worked. The proof was the original question by member: A1HOBO

LuCI is a web interface for your module. Think of is as custom web page used exclusively for accessing advanced set up and features in your WIU unit. To operate Wi-Fi DCS, most people will not need to access LuCI. However, if MTH releases an update to your WIU firm- ware, you will want to meet her.

Accessing LuCI

1. Disconnect all cables from your WIU (power, TIU, ENET).

2. Set the MTH/HOME selector switch to MTH.

3. Plug the WIU into an AC wall outlet.

4. Using a smart device or Wi-Fi capable laptop/PC, navigate to see the available wireless networks and connect to the MTH_DCS-XXXX. The network name is printed on the bottom of your module.

5. When prompted, enter the network key mthdcswifi all lower case. The network key is also printed on the bottom of your module.

6. Open your web browser and enter the IP address 192.168.143.1 in the url address line. This is usually the top text box in your browser. This will open LuCI, the MTH DCS web interface. Note: If your laptop is connected to the internet via your home network, it will attempt to load your home page and timeout. After the timeout, delete the url in the address line and type in 192.168.143.1 and hit enter.

7. Enter the password mthdcs and hit enter. Do not change the username from ROOT. Note: The password is case-sensitive.

8. The home page of LuCI will be displayed.

Updating WIU Firmware

1. Access LuCI (see instructions above in this section).

2. Select the SYSTEM tab near the top of the page.

3. Select BACK-UP/FLASH FIRMWARE from the drop down list.

4. Scroll down the page until you see FLASH NEW FIRMWARE IMAGE near the bottom of the page.

5. Leave the KEEP SETTINGS box checked. This saves your network settings.

6. Select CHOOSE FILE and navigate to the new firmware filename, select the file, and click OPEN.

7. Wait until the file window closes (up to 15 seconds). Verify the filename selected is displayed next to the CHOOSE FILE button.

8. Select FLASH IMAGE...

9. When the FLASH FIRMWARE - VERIFY page is displayed, select the blue PROCEED button.

10. You should now see the SYSTEM FLASHING SCREEN.

11. After waiting a full 3 minutes, it is now safe to remove power from the module and reconnect it to your layout.

Remember your math teacher in H.S. you must show your proof.

Still no proof this all worked. The proof was the original question by member: A1HOBO

if you want proof, all you have to do is log back into LuCi and check the portion I circled in red. If it reads "mthdcs-v1.1" it worked. If still reads "mthdsc-v1.0", it didn't.

Ask your IT man, I'm sure he has upgraded firmware on many devices that don't come back with a confirmation screen that indicates you that you are done and the firmware was successfully updated.  Working in IT myself, I have seen a lot of equipment with this same behavior. I always log back in and verify that the update has been completed, I wouldn't trust a confirmation screen anyway.

Also, you can do this on a Mac. A PC is not required to check the firmware version or update the WIU firmware.

Well: Does all these complex computer steps help sales or heard sales?

I am sure glad I have a IT guy and a local hobby shop that takes good care of my layout and train room.  So I am still in the game. Twenty locomotives running on my Wi-Fi DCS • Premium App.  Ten are MTH locomotives and Ten are Lionel locomotives.  I even brag about this in three popular YouTube  videos from my YT channel.

This is what works for me: Gary

" Well: Does all these complex computer steps help sales or heard sales? "

My opinion:

I don't think it does anything to sales, firmware updates are part of life to anyone who operate IoT (Internet of Things) devices. Which is about 99% of the population. Smartphones, computers, TVs, game consoles, refrigerators, automobiles, wireless cameras, Internet routers, and list goes on of devices that can use firmware updates to improve their functionality.

Some of this stuff isn't even connected to the internet but firmware updates still improve how these devices operate. I guess to me that enhances the selling potential. About two months ago my TV started to develop a flicker on the top half of the screen, I googled the problem, found out that a firmware update to the TV would resolve the issue, and the fix was free. Years ago, that TV would have gone to a repair shop, and cost me time and money. Imagine if Lionel would have had to recall all of the LC Universal Remotes to replace with better more capable models instead of releasing a free utility that allows us to update the firmware on the device by ourselves in seconds.

Look at the TIU itself, firmware upgrades have made the TIU a pretty timeless device. I still have my original TIU Version G that is fully compatibility with the WIU, APP and all of the newest features that DCS has to offer because of firmware updates. I guess for MTH that hurt sales, they couldn't force everyone to buy new TIUs!

Not my opinion, just a plain old fact:
Gary, you do have excellent YOUTUBE videos!!!!!! Thanks!
