If you're handy with a soldering iron at all, you can use those two useless blue ones and make them into writable modules.

Hopefully, you updated the cab to the current 1.61, right? 
I sure did! 1.60 base and 1.61 cab!
I like @gunrunnerjohn's blue module mod to make them writeable.
But I wanted to mention that I did the upgrade to 1.60 base/1.61 cab using only the one black writeable module. I was able to use Legacy System Utility on a laptop, wifi connection from laptop to base via LCS Wifi module. Programmed black module with 1.60 base, did update sequence on base, then reprogrammed black module with 1.61 cab, then did update sequence on cab. No problem (though I was glad I had the blue modules with their 1.52 versions to fall back on!)
You only need one black module to do the upgrades as you say. It's handy to have a few, you can make multi-engine modules with all the road name/number, etc. entered, that makes it easier to go to a new location and add your engine and have all the data already keyed in.
