You can make a shelving unit from 1x4 x 8 foot wood boards. Very inexpensive abpnd then you paint or as in my case, I stained them. Less screws go into the walls whereas the metal shelves need to be screwed into each unless you mount them on a vertical board that willaccess the studs.

Being a car mechanic like you, I have faith in you Chris to do what I describe. If you are interested, I can tell you how I built mine.

I guess us mechanic types think alike.....Lowe’s had all my train shelves in their store too....they even had the paint there as well....😉

1x4 x 8 foot furring boards costs about $1.50 each. Bought about 50 of them and made sure each was not warped.
I’ve known Chris since his dad brought him to shows when he was about 9 or 10. He is a service manager at a dealership, good guy!

This is part of my collection which is 2 separate units, 10 shelves each which I stained the boards.
