Yes, I know ANOTHER ballast question. What is a good material to use under your track (O-27 in my case) that you glue the ballast material to? I know of cork, but its pretty spendy and I'd like to find a cheaper material that's good to work with. I'd like to ballast my track and still be able to screw it down. Thanks in advance!!

Homasote is very commonly used. You can ballast over flat sheets, or cut it out cookie-cutter style with a saber saw and cover with your favorite ballast:

One suggestion - if cutting it out as described above with a sabre saw - get a pack of knife edge blades......or...........use a band saw,
