i just updated my ZW transformer with whitsle diodes and new circuit breaker.. when i test the breaker with a direct short the wire heats up and smokes and about a 3 second delay for the breaker to work.
i thought it should break instantly like my z 4000 does. got the recommended breaker from ebay

some of the others can answer that, but if it is a replacement for the circuit breaker in the transformer it could be it is just as slow as the original one. When you say you got the recommended breaker, was it one someone on here recommended or someone recommended on Ebay?
Even the replacement ZW breakers that are recommended are thermal breakers. They are in no way, shape, or form anywhere near as fast as the electronic breakers in a Z4000, ZWL, or PH180 brick. Even with a new breaker a Postwar ZW needs external circuit protection.
Thermal breakers are slow, nature of the beast. If you want fast, a magnetic or electronic breaker is the ticket.
You might consider these external hydraulic magnetic breakers. They disconnect the circuit in 0.1 seconds at the rated trip current.
