Background - I've installed new 40 amp 1,000 volt diodes in my old 275 Watt ZW transformer and the whistle now works with the whistle control partially on (1st position). It does not work with the Whistle fully engaged (2nd position).

Question - I've noticed that that the spring on the whistle controller on the left side (red bulb) shows no resistance when tested to its mounting plate. The right side whistle controller spring shows a short to its mounting plate. Is this normal? I suspect not. If it's not normal which condition is correct? Both sides visually look the same.

I think what you call a ''spring'' is a resistor. The attached service manual for the ZW shows the resistance measurements for these resistors.

According to the service manual, the resistors connected to the whistle controls are 1.5 ohms each.
