I just completed a project making about twenty feet of barbed wire fence. Here are some pictures from start to finish.

I made the fence using fiberglass window screen. I cut it on a 45 degree angle so the chain link portion was correct. The posts were made using 3/64-inch diameter Plastruct wire coated plastic pipe. The barbed wire is sewing string string. I glued everything together with CA cement and an accelerator.

Alan,

Amazing job... Wish I waited two days to do mine so I could see yours.  I made this using wooden BBQ skewers and some fabric tulle.  I very much like the way you did yours and will be re-doing mine.  I would have never thought about the diagonal cut screen either.

Thanks and sharing!!!

Ron

Nickey,

Thank you.

laz,

The height is about 8 scale feet to the top of the fence and another foot for the barbed wire. The jig is 24 inches long. I made sections in the picture up to 35 inches long by taking the first 24 inches out of the jig and just putting four posts in from that section and then adding on. I normally make fences right in place on a baseboard, but in this case I did not do the model the fence was going around.

Pingman, Lee and Alex,

Thank you. Hopefully there is enough information for others to make fencing in this way.

Mike,

Dennis met the beagle in question. A four -foot high chain link fence is enough to keep him contained.

wb47,

When you paint the sewing string  it fuzzes up a little and gives the look of barbs. When I paint the string with a paint brush it is even more pronounced.

Ron,

Your fence actually looks more to scale by using the tulle.

Excellent work and very realistic looking fencing. I made chain link fences using aluminum screening material and crazy glued a strip 1 1/4" wide to a number of #8 finishing nails used as fence posts anchored to the table top. The end result is satisfactory but not quite up to the standard of your work. You've taken it to the next level.

The only thing I can add is - I used silver metallic tread for barb wire, and wooden dowels for the post so it was easy to glue. I was fortunate to have the space open to put in the fence and gate first. I would have lost my mind if I had done as much and as spectacular as the rest have done in these pictures. WOW.
