I thought about that D500 until I discovered that the engine shell was actually setting too low. The Pilot version would have to be raised to look correct. Without the raise, the engine looks like it is smashed.

Some appear too 'dark' or 'brown' while some (like one view of the 3rd Rail model) appear much more 'red'.
Probably all of the above depending on time. In one of the videos I have there are cars of extremely varying colors in the same train.

I received my set from Charles Ro this past weekend, and the cars came as you described... with no label on either 2-pack. 
I checked each 2-pack to ensure I received the proper 4 cars, and thankfully I did. Fortunately, each individual box was labeled with the appropriate 6-dash number: two coaches were packaged in one 2-pack, along with the combine and observation in the other 2-pack.
Word on the street is these cars were "re-packaged" with the locomotive in NC. Perhaps that's why there is no fancy set box. Let's hope that the packaging into 2-packs also occurred in NC immediately before all four cars were inserted into the set shipping box. Otherwise, I can easily see some sets shipping with two sets of coaches or two sets of combine/observation, since the two-packs are completely unlabeled. 
That's gotta be an accident waiting to happen.

Love the video Nick, a very nice train, enjoy it. Who did the mountains at about the 1 minute mark? Plaster cloth or extruded foam construction?
