Eric's Trains - Episode 50

I'm shopping for a new video camera Eric, can you share what you use? It always very crisp, clear, and sounds great. Excellent work. 

No popcorn, hopefully leftover BW3s will be sufficient.  Will hafta watch after the Cavs game - maybe before it's over....

Your videos are great! They have been a big inspiration and help for my own layout. They actually played a huge part in me getting interested in the hobby as an adult. Thankyou for taking the time putting them together.  Happy Memorial day.

I, also, am looking for a decent digital camera for videos, etc. What do you use ?

Actually, anyone who has a favorite, easy to use, digital SLR, PLEASE chime in....

I could be mistaken, but seem to recall Eric talking in one of his videos that his old camera had died and was replaced with a GoPro.  I have no idea what model.  

 

At the risk of A. Getting off topic, and B. having nothing to do with trains so likely to be deleted:  

 

Jeff Horn, As a photographer by trade, I can give the following advice.  If you primarily want to do video, get a video camera, not a DSLR, you'll be happier that way.  For still Photographs for someone just getting started, many of the low end DSLR cameras are pretty much the same.  I've gotten hands on with several of the brands, and as far as camera bodies go, they are more or less the same as far as features, and that will come down to user preference.  As far as the "big two", Canon and Nikon, I use Nikon.  This has more to do with what I learned with than any other factor, but, that said, Nikon is generally less expensive, and Canon, at least in the high end, makes better lenses.  For starter kits, I can see no difference as far as functionality.  If you are looking for brand new, I'd stay away from the D3100 and such, The d5100 is a reasonable home use camera, but still not something I'm comfortable telling someone to spend money on.  The D7000 is a fairly nice camera body for what it is, and would be the low end of what I'd recommend.  ( Going off my head for current models, so I might be off by a generation.)

 

If you are just getting started, you may want to look into a used camera such as a D90( if you want video capability), D80, or D50.  These can be had pretty cheap and while old, are still very good cameras.

Eric we really enjoyed the video. The under the scenes part was quite interesting. My wife remarked how straight everything is. Guess that is a hint.

That is a very impressive layout and a well done video. Eric is obviously talented and it shows with his masterful delivery and artistic interpretations.

Understanding that the layout is not done, did anybody else notice, about 11/29ths of the way into the video that there was a track tie about 2/3rds of an inch north of the straight section where the other section of track meets, that is canted by about 1.33 millimeters?  I wonder if he did it on purpose to see if we would catch it? Other than that and the fact that the black wire seen in the back of his loose wire bundle should have probably been a blue wire with a white stripe I found his layout as it sits to be absolutely flawless...

Great work Eric! You do an excellent job of presenting your layout. I have gotten many ideas for my own layout from your videos.  You are a true master, you make challenging work look easy.  Thanks and I can't wait for episode 51!

Wow!  that had to be a real effort to make.  I didn't watch it all (didn't have any popcorn either), but bookmarked it for future reference if and when. 

Eric, fantastic video and even better layout.  My son and I quite enjoyed watching it together.  Even got a number of new ideas for our layout.  Keep up the great work.
