While I was out walking this morning, I saw a mixed freight train with a BNSF on the point, a Canadian Pacific, and two Ferromex engines. It has become fairly common to see all the US and Canadian Class 1's and a few others (leased by BNSF) in the mix of engines around here, but I don't recall ever seeing a Ferromex engine. This was a first for me.

Think I have seen some FerroMex locmotives on the BNSF here in Chicago - been a while. For sure see many FerroMex auto racks and Kansas City Southern de Mexico auto racks, both on BNSF and CN/EJ&E. Also saw a brand new BNSF auto rack in orange.......a real beaut!

BNSF formed an alliance with Ferromex last May to ship auto parts through intermodal containers to the automotive plants around Mexico City from Chicago, through El Paso, TX. At that time when I read the news it seemed like the alliance between Union Pacific & Kansas City Southern, shipping auto parts to the assembly facilities in Mexico from the US was highly profitable & BNSF wanted a portion of that business. Maybe BNSF & Ferromex started shipping completed automobiles through this alliance in the auto-racks you mentioned.

Thanks for the added info. I knew KCS had a division in Mexico and UP also has something there (but I wasn't sure what?), but I was not aware of the new BNSF shipping deal to/from Mexico.
I saw a bunch of auto racks in a mixed freight consist this morning. All were BNSF, UP or other common ones to this area. Nothing unusual, that I noticed anyway.

Those things do seem to get around and now it appears they have been doing it for some time too.
