Yes, making new uses out of older "used" trains and parts/accessories can produce
great items, and unique to your railroad. I have taken Marx and Lionel trestle pieces
purchased ay a local OKC shop, in a "junk" box for 50 cents each. Now I get more with each visit. I use two trestles of same size/height and combined them to make one "box" type trestle. They are more stable and look very nice... something different. I
have seen the same on rail lines all over the country, usually prior to entering a bridge
or sometimes adjacent to girder bridges over roadways. Easy to make, and when painted flat black, good to put to use.
