I don't have a layout, but I have an idea of what I want on it, so when I see certain items that will be useful at a good price, I grab them. The most recent was a Korber #2005 Warehouse kit. I went after a #2010 that came up but it bid up WAY over what I thought it was worth. Hopefully Rich will be able to recover the tooling for the #2005 and #2010 kits and we'll see them again.

when i had my layout, maybe once a month i'd pick up a k-line building kit or something small.  Now, i'm without a layout but I pick up stuff on ebay probably just as often or maybe once every other month.  I think of something that's on my wish list and search for one on ebay that needs some TLC, get it cheap and fix it up.  then it ends up going in storage for that someday when i'll have a layout again.  Been focusing on Lionel postwar mostly because it's easy to work with.  I always have my eye on something, then I end up playing devil's advocate in my mind for a month or so before I decide to buy or not.... "well I don't really need that train" "but it's really cool" "i don't run anything with that roadname" "yeah, but it's REALLY COOL"

Minimum of twice a year but that has not been the case over the past few years. Because I have got back to working on the layout I have bought scenery items, new switches, and when the new catalogs come out I go through them and order if a engine or a new freight car design is offered I buy them because I like to buy something never offered before and something I don't have...................paul

Same for me.  My layout is pretty much "finished" now, so I'm not out buying more supplies to actually build or even add to the layout.  However, IF I see something that I like, or "need", I'll often "pop" for it to improve the overall layout.  Sometimes this requires removing something that had been in place on the layout.

As for new trains, I have the layout as full as I can make it and still have some engines and a lot of cars packed away, waiting for the day I place them on the layout and actually use them.  Not much more that I'm looking for.

This was my biggest buying years for O-Gauge.  Some stuff was brand new I ordered, the other stuff was new to me from the bay !

I bought the Lionel Frosty Set . That led me to find some Lionel train cars with Snow men on them .

I also bought a MTH z-1000 transformer , the two new Christmas & holiday cars from Mth.  I also bought the MTH NYC three pack of boxcars I ordered.

The NYC mth passenger cars came in .   they are on lay away .

I am still waiting on a PLE berk from MTH 2014 vol 1 & a NYC MOHAWK set with cars from MTH 2014 vol 2 .  Also a NYC rs-1 from MTH 2014 vol 2 .  I also ordered  the CHRISTMAS Diesel from MTH .
