Gents

I have on hand an MTH 20-3501-2 GN 4-8-4 with of course scale wheels.

It was delivered in error..........I had ordered the high rail version.

I have no experience with 2 rail.

Therefore I cannot test it out if I intend to send it back for the right version.

My trackwork is very good with 072 Fastrack Switches.

Will this engine configured to 3 rail work okay on my set up?

And on the box it says........operate on 50" radius curves.......how does that translate to 072?

Thanks in Advance

Dave

I have not run the engine for that very reason.

Tempted to try it as it sits here in front of me.......... !

I like the look of the scale wheels but without any knowledge of weather it would run properly on 072 track and switches (Fastrack) I am not going to try it.

I'll post pics.........it really is a great looking beast!

Thanks

Dave

I have a bigger engine, the C&O Texas type. I have a curve on my 2 rail mains that is 5' radii (10' diameter) and that engine won't do it. Like HW said that model has all wheels flanged and that makes it not work for small layouts.

The fact that you have fast track 3 rail track, makes me think there's no way! I wouldn't expect it to run on less than stated of 50". Maybe it can  go slightly less on two rail for short curves?

The look of the scale wheels on that engine would make me want to switch track. Most of the time the large 3 rail pilot wheel(s) and main driver's flange size, looks too far out of scale.
