Well it seems like this is Sunday scenic workshop week

However I will stay with a model. This particular model is very special to me. It is my very first structure constructed in the 1960/61 timeframe. A monthly publication called "Model Trains" often featured the work of a man named E.L. Moore, and his scratch builds were instructive as well as being unique.

So this young fellow just starting out in scale model railroading took the plunge, and built his Branchline Water Tank. It is as true to the original build as my youthful skills allowed for. I used what I had on hand...some balsawood mostly, a bit of chain my Mom donated from her broken Jewelry box, bits of paper clip, sewing thread and some masking tape, Elmer's White glue. Watercolor paint set added some color to finish. For tools I used a single edge razor blade, a nail file, straight pins, and some of Dads sandpaper. Note my primitive efforts to weather it. I still have it displayed today. In case you wonder...it is HO scale...hopefully that will not be an issue in our O scale Forum.

Bob,

Your work was excellent when you started modeling and has continued to this day. Great job.

Wisdimenna/Joe,

The barrels are full of various colored and sizes of Plastruct pipe. I bought this material from a friend of a professional model builder that used to work for and engineering company named Hayward Robinson. They closed down their model building operations in the late 90's. I was called by a local hobby store that the fellow was trying to sell the materials to. I ended up buying quite a bit of materials that I use to this day.

Great stuff everyone!  I haven't posted anything here in a while as I've been busy with non-train stuff lately.  I finally had a chance to add Kadee scale couplers and weather my Jersey Central plywood-sheathed caboose that was scratch built for me last year by Forum member "Brother Love"...

Sirt, nice job but the things need a tender. I did to mine what Milwaukee Road did to theirs. I put a pantograph on and made it electric not steam powered. Don

Thanks for pointing that out Don. I decided to convert it to diesel era. Here are the installed updates.

Thanks

S.
