Hi Al,

I believe the Weaver B & O Royal Blue was actually the Santa Fe Valley Flyer 4-6-2 in disguise.  I don't recall whether Weaver initially issued the engine painted in B & O colors,  or whether they repainted the some of the Valley Flyer engines after they didn't sell very well.  I know that there aren't that many of the B & O engines around.

Nick,

Interesting information. I never knew Weaver did the Valley Flyer pacifics painted  B&O which obviously are nowhere near correct for B&O. The Cincinnatian P-7d done by Weaver was correct as is the current offering Sunset/3rd Rail P-7e.

American Flyer did do an S gauge version of the streamlined Royal Blue pacific ca 1940's - 50's.

rheil,

I think the SF Valley Flyer engines were released in 1998 or 1999 and they were still listed in the 2000 and maybe 2001 catalogs,  but I'm not sure if the B & O Royal Blue version was ever listed in a catalog-it may have been just in a sale flyer or even a small custom run for a store or individual to help sell the leftover inventory of the Valley Flyer engines.  In either case you are correct-they look nothing like the way the real engine looked.  I own one of the Weaver Cincinnatians in 3 rail and it's a beautiful engine.  I am ordering the 3rd rail/Sunset  Cincinnatian passenger set that is coming out next year.

Nick

I've seen the B&O version listed in a couple catalogs (I have one of the older ones here somewhere).  The catalog says they would be made to order as in if they got an order for one, it would be painted up and shipped out (i.e. they didn't have a supply available ready to go).  There were several other engines in this same catalog that all fell under that category.

I actually have one of these engines (sorry, it's not for sale) and it did not come with a numbered certificate or numbered brass plate to indicate how many were made.  Mine has QSI 2+ sounds in it.  It was offered later on with TMCC/RailSounds, but I do not know if any were made in that configuration.

I have a weaver Cincinnatian and they are numbered. There is even a brass tag on the underneath of the engine listing the number it was made. I think it's 66 of 260 without looking.
