Disassembly of, Fixed Voltage on Pre-War Lionel 011 Switches

I'd like to disassemble the switch mechanism on a pair of Lionel Pre-War 011s (to both clean them as well as to add a fixed voltage source) but can't seem to get into them.  I removed the two screws from the sides of the top plate - but things didn't seem to want to budge and I didn't want to apply more force than what I was using.  Feels like the lantern housing might be holding onto something underneath.

Haven't been able to find many postings (except one and this one ), notes, or service information (except for a parts listing on Olsen’s web site) on the interwebs about these switches.  Does anyone have pointers as to how these come apart?  And/or any suggestions about adding a fixed voltage capability?
