Patrick, that's a really cool model, what a BEAST! I'm thinking you're the mayor of Patsburg! So you need a driver figure in a tux, a figure of you with your trumpet standing up just in front of the back seat waving at the crowd as the Cadillac rumbles by.

Okay so we've headed down the VW rabbit hole so I went out to the garage to dig up the box with my VWs.  I have one of those MPC Fundemensions Great Northern 3 level car carriers and was always looking for some cars for a load.  I tried some of those plastic Dimestore Dreams cars but they were too big. One day I came across some Hot Wheels Extreme? cars at a LHS that were going cheap and they would definitely g with O gauge trains.  Among them were some Volkswagens which looked like they may fit on that car carrier. I took them home tried them out and they fit perfectly.

So we have two '58 Panel Bus and a '52 split window Beatle.  They sat on the top level. The middle level had the two red '69 Variants (station wagons)and the white '52 Karmann Ghia, the bottom level had the two white '69 Fast Backs and the black '52 Karmann Ghia. As I said, they fit perfectly and the Big Sky Blue car looked fantastic.  I couldn't figure out how to separate the levels without damage so securing the cars was tricky.  I used wax meant to hold candles in place and it worked fine as long as the car remained upright.  The ultimate problem became weight and center of gravity.  The car definitely didn't like high speed 0-27 curves.  So today the car is empty and I guess I'll have to have a VW dealership in town.

TomlinsonRun RR, I don't know if these Ghias are actually scale but like I said they look fine around my trains and other vehicles.

This Bud's for you!   I have two Budweiser trucks by Corgi which make up my entire Budweiser trucking fleet.   I also have two K line woodside scale reffers to compliment the trucks.   My Dad's favorite beer was Budweiser ( not mine ... my taste buds wildly dance to micro brews ) so the Budweiser trucks and reffers are a tip of the hat to Dad.  

Great collection of VW's, Coach Joe. You've got Fastbacks, Ghias, and various other "Types".  Nice!

Here are the other vehicles that were in the same box as the VWs. A total mix of manufacturers, purchased everywhere from train shows, drug stores, dollar stores, Walmart, Target, hobby shop just about anywhere toy cars cans be found.  There's some Welley, Road Champs, Yat Mings.  The El Camino is a Hot Wheels.

Coach, great collection of VWs. I noticed both Type 2 panel vans are slammed, nice touch.

Speaking of Volkswagens, I just received this Type 2 pop top yesterday. Just gotta have a VW Bus on the layout. ;-) I'll put this with my campers on the lake to replace the cheesy Lemax surfer woody.

The first vehicle of any type I’ve purchased for the layout. A Carolina Freight Carriers B model Mack. I can vividly remember seeing the “Carolina” trucks running around town.  

Jesse - I'm also a big fan of the Mack B and it's various applications as tractor, box truck, flatbed truck, fire truck, etc.   I have two Mack B tractors on my layout plus a box truck and fire engine.    Here are the two Mack B tractors and a Kenworth COE.  I think the Kenworth is an early 1950's model.

Just remembered there is a '68 VW bus on the layout...nice to have the soft top rolled back this time of year...!

I have had a lot of VW's I have picked up over the years when I see a deal or something interesting. Many still in boxes some all over the layout. Have been wanting a good home for them all. I picked up a (cheap) beat up, damaged in shipping,  Menards Valley Motors with a broken turn table and roof caved in. I  was able to take out the motor and repair the gears. Then printed some brick pattern with Model Builder Software to cover some scratches on the side of the building and give it a different look. Covered the cracks in the roof edge so you do not see the sign light coming through. Added an LED spot light for the rotating vehicle on the roof. Got a VW key fob logo from the local dealer for free and hung this with some pipe for a sign. Found some wood letters from Michaels painted them silver for a dealer sign mounted on wood beams. Added some more interior detail; service bay and sales room. Drilled more holes to mount VW's. I put the 5 Ford trucks that came with the Menards building with my Lionel Ford dealer. Then hunted down all the VW's of a similar era aiming for 1960, with earlier models for the used car lot. Opened boxes long waiting for a place. Here it is on the carpet kids layout for now. Will have to do some work to clear some buildings for enough room to fit it on the main layout. Fondly recall our VW when I was a kid and learned to drive on our Beetle. Still have a lot of VW's on the layout but they are all newer then my 1960 dealer. Enjoy seeing all your VW pics!

@kj356 Westminster Volkswagon has more VWs than the local VW dealer here in Butler has right now.  What a nice collection.

Pat, the Mack looks great!  I failed to comment on everyone else's Macks earlier.  They all look great!
