I recently bought this book at a really cool bookstore/restaurant in Asheville, North Carolina. It's a thick book, too, with lots of story and photos.
I picked this up a few weeks ago with my wife. We are both from Delaware and love the Wilmington and Western so we had to get it. Great running little switcher. It is a great addition to our 4x8 layout.
I'm sure I, along with many others, will be posting our York hauls so until then...happy rails.

Thanks so much, Jon! Yes- exactly like that! Those look great together! Love it. That answers whether I'm going to reserve some of the Amfleets or Viewliners that are on stand-by. Reserved the slumber coach awhile ago.
There's one Viewliner left but it's in phase IVB(aka Phase VI)- which, to my knowledge, isn't prototypical? Can anyone confirm? Regarding the Amfleets, I prefer phase 3 or later.
Very strongly considering the Superliner Is as well now that I know that it isn't non-prototypical for Superliner consists to lack a transition sleeper(which only came with the Superliner 2s). Per trains.com article by Bob Johnson.
When it comes to command motive power, I'm very fortunate to have TMCC/Legacy in phases 2-5 and DCS PHIV and Surfliner liveries, which keeps pretty much keeps all options open. I've been hunting 21" coaches & Superliners like a hawk and certainly will be at York!

A couple of things. Phase IVB is not an official Amtrak designation. That is a construct of the modeling world. It is Phase VI. The logo and the color of the blue is different. You are correct that Viewliner II's were not painted in the Phase VI scheme. Only the Viewliner I sleepers were painted in Phase VI. However, there was enough demand to warrant the paint scheme on the the VL II cars.
Viewliner I's are a potential project down the road if enough people are interested. They would be done in Phase IV and Phase VI paint when and if they do get done.

Although not the official Amtrak website, here's a rundown of the Amtrak paint schemes:

Good Morning Y'all. Yesterday I stopped in an antique mall known for high prices. I found a plastic tub with an engine, tender, flat car, gondola, and a caboose. Also got 48 sections of O-27 track. There was also a very old and scary American Flyer transformer. Get this now. All for $18.00.

ctr, I love your New Haven DD box car and your blue Boston and Maine box car. Two of the nicest cars ever made.
Some die-cast, a LEGO submarine, and a pair of Lionel 5168 027 42" Radius right hand switches to go with a pair of K-Line left had switches. The sub is a Lego knockoff for the Angry Birds, the REA step van is an American Heritage Models, 1/43 scale. The remaining 3 vehicles are all Maisto. The black pickup with the utility body is a new purchase from Walmart, couldn't leave it for $1.98. The VW and the TONKA pickup are about 20 years old. Between recent moves for my wife and I and my son and daughter, I've wound up with a lot of the old toys. I've looked at that brown pickup everyday since April, always thinking it looked too small. I finally flipped over the other day and it's marked as 1/48, just like the black Walmart truck. Today I took another look in the box and found the 1/43 VW.
These turnouts look like they're in pretty good hsape but the came without controllers so I'll be looking for some SPDT spring return to neutral switches to operate these turnouts.

Just got back from York, I found the one thing I was really looking for, the Lionel 6-11333 Santa Fe Northern NIB to pull my Lionel Santa Fe passenger cars. Put it on the tracks and the cab light was blinking out a failed main smoke unit fan motor. Boy, I've seen this before on the exact same model, so I immediately pulled it apart and popped an MTH smoke fan motor in, no more blinking.
This is the one with the whistle steam, which as the smoke gadget man, I wanted.

Definitely a tough call. Its the R-40 F train for me for the same reasons. I regularly rode that same train and line for years. Both are top notch, though. Now you need to work your magic and find one of those original R-32s with the MTA signage and an R-11/34 for your collection (I prefer the R-34 over the R-11 because with the blue doors, it can be run in a consist with the R-32s as was done back in the day).

Purchased another Lionel 52013 Artrain Norfolk Southern. Back in 1992 when Lionel came out w/the Norfolk Southern unit train this car was the add on car for the set.

Walked into a Harbor Freight this weekend, 2nd time in 3 years. I always find at least one deal. They have a table up front of "as is" deals. This was an Airbrush Compressor with sprayer. Not high end, but about $100 off retail. The box was beat up badly with lots of tape. The gal said everything was there or there would be a note of missing parts. Also told me I could bring back in 5 days for full refund. Got home and everything perfect and still in factory wrapping. Pretty good start kit especially for someone (like me) who has no idea how to use an air brush!

This has been a bit of a multiweek project and is still in progress, but a whole lot of Legos for a semi-custom O gauge compatible Lego Train. The engine uses an MTH bump and go trolley chassis and is surprisingly more powerful than expected, I've got it here pulling it's 4 car train of a tender, baggage(WIP), coach, and caboose, but I've managed to get as many as 8 traditional sized cars rolling on a level surface.

Awesome! You must be really pleased with the results. That MTH chassis is "ripping" down the track but then bump and go trolleys do tend toward hyper speeds :-).

Thanks! I was inspired by a post I saw on a Lego forum about a guy who's son joined an O gauge club, so he built an O gauge Camelback steamer entirely out of Legos so he had something to run when he went to his son's events. I'm nowhere near as creative as that guy though so I just settled for rebuilding one of the early 2000s "My Own Train" kits that I had as a kid and mounting the engine and cars to pre-existing trucks.
I guess I’ll make my first addition to this thread. After 8 years in this hobby, I finally bought a new Legacy engine. I’ve wanted a CSX heritage program, but Lionel came around with the B&O sd70. The B&O Heritage engine looks great, CSXcellent!
Sunday I bought some Lionel trains and papers that were for sale on the internet locally. Yesterday I picked them up and when I got them home I did the usual, take apart the engine and tender, cleaned, rewired, oil and greased them. Tested them on my layout, they work perfectly. From what I figured out, this is set 1419ws from 1947.

Picked this Lionel Pacific up last weekend. Made in the early 2000s when Lionel was making, what I consider, some of their best built engines. It came with a big Pittman motor, Odyssey Cruise, wireless tether, continuous fan smoke, but two chuffs. By replacing the two lobe cam with a four lobe made from scrap along with a second micro switch we get four puffs and chuffs. Total investment a few hours time and a 50 cent switch. Also added the deck plate, cab curtains, and shortened the drawbar.

Well I have been looking forward to posting this item. It is a little out of my normal lane, but I could not resist buying it. I know we have some "subway" fans so I hope this will please them especially. Back Story...My wife and I took a cruise down the Rhine river in October, it had been postponed 3 times due to various countries COVID restrictions so we finally made it. We stopped in the very scenic Alsace Town of Colmar, France which is right on the boarder between France and Germany and went into the town for a tour. Colmar by the way is the home town of the sculptor Bartholdi who designed the Statue of Liberty. Anyway, as is typical of me, while many folks are admiring the beautiful architecture, I am on the lookout for toys and trains. Well what do I find but a toy store that amongst all the dolls and such has a very small collection of train toys. One of which is in fact a 1/43 scale replica of the modern trams that you see all over Europe. So for about $30 US I got myself a 0 - scale model of a modern city tram. Pictures follow.
Here is the box that caught my eye...note that it clearly states that the scale is 1/43 however the rest of the features are described in French so thank goodness for the pictures. I did note that the box says the toy is for those 3+ years of age or older ...I guess at 77 I am qualified although my wife might not agree
Here is a side view showing the two sets of side doors. Note also that their is a full interior. The two center roof areas in grey contain large opening hatches that allow you to "populate" the inside if you desire.
The highly streamlined front end (or rear end for that matter). The operator (1 person) sits behind that large streamlined windshield. Except for entering and leaving stations there did not seem to be many lineside signals so it appears the operator has a good deal of discretion in operating the tram once they get track clearance.
Another front quarter view showing the opening doors. The station platforms are raised to the height of the door so there is only a small step to get in or out. Fares are sort of on the "honor" system. You buy a ticket (or more commonly a multi ride pass) and you are required to keep that on you and show it to an "inspector" should one appear. Failure to have a ticket to show the inspector results in a hefty fine - so the incentive is to buy your ticket (which costs nearly nothing anyway).
This view shows the scale of the model. It is about 16" from end to end about 17" over the couplers.
Well that is my "cool" purchase recently. I have not figured out how to integrate this into my layout so I expect it will be shelf display for the time being. It does have flanged wheels and very detailed trucks so modifying it to run on the track is withing the realm of possibility maybe even powered if you could find a small motor.
Best Wishes
Don

This view shows the scale of the model. It is about 16" from end to end about 17" over the couplers.
Well that is my "cool" purchase recently. I have not figured out how to integrate this into my layout so I expect it will be shelf display for the time being. It does have flanged wheels and very detailed trucks so modifying it to run on the track is withing the realm of possibility maybe even powered if you could find a small motor.

This is very special Don I never saw one of these on a layout and I can't wait to see it flying down the rails on yours. 🤓
Thank you for your comments Dallas

Found some good reading material at today’s WB&A TCA Meeting - Western Maryland Railway Company Rules and Instructions Governing…well, just about everything. Effective September 28, 1952.
