I posted this on the 2 rail site and only received 2 responses. I can't believe that so few people use homasote road bed. So here it is for the 3 rail scalers.

"I have a large box of homasote that I purchased from Cascade several years ago. I am now building a small switching layout and need a bit more roadbed.  I went looking for more from Cascade and found that they have closed down. Does anybody know of an alternate source for O scale homasote roadbed? I know that you can always make your own but that is very messy and is labor intensive."

My opinion, those who use Homasote don't use it as just roadbed.  If they do use it, they typically still put cork roadbed on top of it and use the Homasote for noise deadening on top of thin plywood.

For what it's worth, that Cascade Supply product is cut-to-shape road-bed, with tapered sides and everything. It was primarily used by 2-Rail SCALE modelers, as it was excellent for those you lay their own track (first glueing the ties to the Cascade Supply road-bed, then hand spiking the rail to the ties).

Might be your opinion but many do just that - directly use it for road bed. No need for cork at all; waste of money.

Sound deadening comes from eliminating vibration propagation -- screws and glue take care of that problem.
