Since Atlas isn't likely to make an 0-72 (36" radius) turnout I decided I would. It isn't quite finished, but it seems to work ok. This is the first real construction project for me since my stroke last August.

Jeff looks like you did a fine job to me! When I switch to 2 rail someday I would like to try my hand at building some smooth turnouts

Thanks! I've made a little more progress since I took the picture--I've installed the guardrails and trimmed and painted the ties. Now I need to finish wiring it up and test it with a locomotive. All of my freight cars go smoothly through the turnout.
The next challenge is a 40.5" radius-27" radius curved turnout.

Always fun to experiment. A tight radius turnout is one such example. Definitely try a locomotive once it's wired, since that will be the real test of it's function. Good Luck!

Thanks, Christopher. I'll be home this weekend and I'll try to take some updated pictures showing the finished turnout. I don't think I will be running a Class "A" 2-6-6-4 through it anytime soon....

really nice switch and glad you have made a recovery! We really need this size switch in O scale. Its really hard to create a realistic yard with the current Atlas O #5 switch.
Looks like you have had a good recovery. In 1994, I survived a basilar artery anuerism and I'll be darned I recovered. The next summer I reroofed my house to proove to me I could still do it. Thank the good Lord, a heck of a doctor, and my loving wife.
