Reading and commenting on this thread and others, taking photos, and making train videos today  was like having about 20 guys over to run trains. Great fun!

I'm recovering from a cold with a lingering cough, so this Forum was perfect for me today. It was also perfect for you because I didn't infect you'all by coughing in your faces! LOL

I think this Forum  helped me get over my cold.  It was something positive to do, much more interactive than just watching television, and I think it is better to do a little something than do nothing when your're a little under the weather.

Love your layout.  Your 1947 Freedom Train; is it Lionel?  Do you also have the three exhibit cars?  Those are hard to find.

The ALCO PA "Spirit of 1776" is the only known diesel (or any locomotive) to have run in every state.  Its dependability during its two year run is said to have quicken the demise of the steam locomotive.  Little known fact (well, I read this on the web): this is probably the most kissed locomotive of all time.

Here is a great shot of the Freedom Train in Harrisburg in November, 1947, with the Friendship Train passing through being pulled by PRR Centipedes.  Modeling the Freedom Train with its PA and seven cars is easy.  Modeling the Friendship Train with its over 700 cars would be a bit harder.

Here is MTH's version.  MTH produced an ABA set which was fantasy since there was no B or trailing A, although the lead A unit "1776" was accurate.  This is actually a picture of the fantasy trailing A "1947".

CAPPILOT, Ron, this particular Freedom Train is the Lionel set from the 2003 Lionel Catalog, which I purchased from an estate sale. The man that owned this set was a friend, 90 years of age. His family called me asking I buy his remaining trains. Are you saying there are 3 or so more cars, I would be interested in them. Thanks so much for commenting...Happy New Year...

Lionel produced all seven cars of the prototype train.  There was a baggage/tool car loaned by the SF, three 6-axle Pullman cars (which housed the Marine Corps Honor Guard detachment, Porters, and Archivists) on loan from the Pullman Company, and three 4-axle heavyweight passenger cars (P70 coaches) on loan from the PRR that were converted to exhibit cars.   Lionel marketed this set in two boxes, one with the engine, tool car and the Pullmans, and the other with the three exhibit cars.  The three pack of exhibit cars was hard to find.

WOW, who's are they ? Awesome collection for sure. I know on some other posts in Forum's  you posted equipment photo's from other folk. Just curious who these belong to as they are nice and he or she should be thanked for there commitment to the hobby for there cool collection.

I used to think my 23 diesel engines was way too many. 

After seeing the above diesel collection of Brian and his dad, I now feel impoverished. I believe in round numbers, so my goal is to have 30 diesels by 12/31/18.

These collections remind me of Tommy Z’s vast array of locos!
