Hi all, my The Legacy modules that came with my (new and unused) 990 system are both version 1.0 What needs to be done as far as updating the software for the remote and base? Thanks

It must go back to Lionel if the base and remote are at 1.0
Lionel is no longer servicing the base. I wonder if this will be an issue for the 1.0 repair?
If you recently purchased this cab2 on the secondary market, and the seller offers returns.
You might want to contact Lionel and see if they will do the update, and consider a return if they don't.
Well, they don't need any parts to upgrade the firmware in the base, so that excuse doesn't fly. 
According to the last post in that thread, the base got a new circuit board. Was that because of the charging problems the very first 990 sets had or was it required for the firmware update?
Rather than getting guesses here call Lionel and explain what you have like Rick and Vernon suggested. If it's a simple firmware change you maybe in luck. If it's hardware then all bets are off. Either way the first call is to Lionel. If I remember correctly the ones that were corrected from the factory had a silver dot inside the battery compartment.
The charging board is hardly a mandatory fix, if the base functions otherwise, you should be good to go.
I noticed in the manual that upgrading from firmware 1.0 required a return to Lionel, why is that?
If I understood it correctly, 1.3 and up is user firmware upgradable?
I believe there was a software or firmware switch that had to be thrown. It was something that could not be updated from the module.
When I tried out the 990 system, mine shipped with either 1.1 or 1.2. The Base Utility was unable to write and upgrade module for the CAB2 remote and I don't think I was able to upgrade the Base directly either. I contacted Lionel and they sent me modules for the Base and CAB2 to upgrade them to 1.3. From there I was able to upgrade to 1.52 and create a 1.52 upgrade module for the CAB2. Shortly after that, I donated the 990 set to a club in need and carried on with my original TMCC setup.
