The closest I have ever gotten to "funny" or "silly" on a layout, has been making my interpretation of a Rosebowl/ThanksgivingDay-type parade, right down the middle of a village street. I felt the large figures you see used here were a fair (but likely silly? Fanciful?) representation of the huge floats which have characterized such parades thru the decades since I lived on the Upper Westside of Manhattan, right behind the Natural History Museum, where the floats get inflated early in the morning of the day of the parade, and everybody in the neighborhood, and plenty of tourists,

congregate to watch the phenomenon unfold.

And yes, the parade needed a band and got a couple drummers (well, sort of,) some of which can be seen here along with a Benz-limo with Santa and a few other characters aboard you will likely recognize, having a good ol' time of it...

Here's an idea for a variation on that scene.

As I recall, when I originally saw that scene, even as a 7 or 8 year old I could tell that it was filmed by having them walk on a flat surface with the camera turned sideways.  (At the time, I had no idea how funny that show really was!)  So, lay the building on its back, so that they're walking on a level surface, and see how many visitors get the joke.

I found them through eBay. They are Heroclix game pieces and are perfect for O gauge. You can find almost any super hero and their villain counterpart.  You will need to carefully remove the figures from their game base.  They can add some fun to your layout.

I was just searching an old portable hard-drive for pics for another thread and came across these pics.   My son was 8 (he's 18 now) when the pics were taken and he had lost all interest in trains except for military ones.  He also loved (and still does) all things Godzilla (chalk it up to being on the autistic spectrum).   I went down the basement one evening to relax after coming home from work only to find this on the layout:

I don't have any pics (all lost when an old pc crashed) but over the years up to 2 yrs ago when I tore down my old layout, I'd periodically find a sniper on building roof, artillery barrel peeking out of a tunnel, or a parade of tanks running down main street.   Good memories!

Todays installment... Another member actually caused me to dig some of my favorite figures of "Super Heroes" out of the yellow plastic sand pail in the closet before this thread posted; but you guys wound me up and put me in gear 😜

This is fun, silly and fanciful because that is me making the basket......

......and those who know me, realize that the only way I could do that is with an 8’ step ladder.......

Oh Greg Houser....my sides ache after seeing Godzilla rampaging thru the NJ HiRailers layout....and the smoke helped.....very nice smoky effect...

It was a slow day in late 1949 when two shifter crews decided to play tug-a-war.  The B28, a USRA 0-6-0 design, seems like the best bet to win.  But the old A4, "Old 13", the largest production 0-4-0 made, still had some fight in it.

The firemen are ready to give the signal while a trackman will judge the winner.

Well, Old 13 won which surprised everyone but the big A5's crew. 

After turning Old 13 to start work, the two crews waved at each other in a show of good sportsmanship.

I thought it was kind of neat when our cat was sitting by the Esso sign with the tiger on it.

I chose watching Frank play over my Thanksgiving dinners; he played unpublicized shows in Detroit ("to give thanks") I was always there. One time he peeled potatoes silently for an hour until the "idiots" boo-ed and left.  He said he just wanted to know who his friends were and proceeded to wipe the floor with our jaws. Much of Freak Out & Apostrophe got played,..and a short God/Hilliard imitation too (World's Greatest Sinner movie).

I really did make the dinner and creamcheese pancakes earlier 😁

As Rob previously posted his Dynamic Duo, I decided that my layout needed them too!

The Caped Crusader and Boy Wonder are scaling the side of the building to capture The Penguin and his crooks.

I have added some “life” to my scene via a sound system which plays a Holiday themed clip from the 60s Batman Series (I plan on doing a review on this sound system in the near future). The last thing I need for this scene is Santa sticking his head out of the window (figure is currently in the post).

I could not find any scrapple today at IGA so I got some liver pudding; it's a Southern thing. It is almost as good as scrapple.

Keep me posted on your sound system.  I've done a number of them for many of the train manufacturers.  It would be fun to compare notes.  Some are even 16 bit audio.

Lou, I don't know if you have hear of this system before: the EZ Sound Box (made by Invite by Voice LLC). Stumbled across it on the forum (before I made an account), I believe the thread had to do with adding sounds to a baseball field? I have not opened one up yet to take a look inside, its on my list of things to do (I finished my spring semester yesterday and now have some free time yay!).

Nicely done Bryce!  I like the addition of the Penguin and the soundtrack. You’ll have to post again in December 

Doug W:  Yep, I had one of those digital sound modules in the shack, so you could press a button and hear a section of Grandpa Jones' rendition of "That Good Old Mountain Dew".  The closeup shot I posted didn't show the two hillbillies on the ground chuggin' some squeezins.

That film was one of if not the best comedic films ever made.   They couldn't reproduce a film like that today as it would be sooooooooooo offensive to some folks and more importantly we don't have comic's of that caliber today to do the film.  Many are simply fakes and are terrible actors.

My family introduced me to Grandpa Jones and many other country singers at a very young age. I am an avid fan of "Hee-Haw" and watch it all the time on RFD-TV. "Hey Grandpa, what's for supper?"

These darned bigfoot (or bigfeet?) are everywhere! But..... This Texas Ranger, who somehow wandered all the way up to the northeast in the middle of winter, is not scared of him! 

These Hobos are having a great time on the top of a bridge but they should be careful. It is a long way down into the fridge water!

Here is an "Old Navy Guy" (could be me)  train watching...maybe a little too close to the tracks!

Living in a rural area, bears sometimes unknowingly sneak up on people, not only are your scenes fun but also realistic! Let us see that Bigfoot!

That poor ballplayer never saw it coming. If your alien invader was placed near a small crowd, you should play this in the background!

Orson Welles really got a lot of people with this broadcast. From my understanding/research, people believed this from the looming war clouds in 1938 and the fact that some of audience came in after the show introduction. The Munich Agreement just happened and Nazi Germany was expanding its borders, many Americans watched Europe with worry. At the same time as Welles' show was on, the "Chase and Sanborn hour," played on a different station. After the first act on the "Chase and Sanborn Hour" ended, many tuned into "War of the Worlds" after the introduction which stated that this was all fiction. Some thought it was Aliens, others a German invasion, some even thought it was a natural disaster. My grandfather told me that a few locals in Grover's Mill shot at a water tower thinking it was an alien tripod machine.

Don and Juan drive to the other side of the tracks to attend to some " business."Don and Juan stretch their legs as they wait for their business associate to arrive in their car.  Fast Finger Eddie is sleeping in the back seat of Don and Juan's Caddy. 

Business associated Russel and Amillio drive up in their Caddy and started over toward Don and Juan just as Fast Finger Feddie woke up.  Don yells over to Russel and Amillio " Stand back out of the way guys!  Freddie needs some target practice time and your car looks like a great target! Just want to make sure you guys don't impede our business on this side of the tracks."  

Having taken car of that business Don and Juan with Freddie in the back seat sleeping are off to their next "business appointment."

Well friends, I am going to try some new pictures I "imagineered" as Mr. Disney would say.  Hope they give you a smile.

Here our astronauts have come home from a long space trip and they are Hungary!  So they decide to stop at Micky D's before going back to the NASA Space Center.  Trouble is, this guy is not sure he has the 15cents he needs for that burger, after all space suits don't have pockets!!

Well, this is different.  The Circus is coming to Small Town to close up their season.  When they arrive, they decide to demonstrate their new "Self Unloading" Giraffe Car ... every one gets themselves out, which shortens unload time and lowers labor costs.  OBTW, you can see we do have a disabled member of our Giraffe staff, but he is a trooper and handles himself just like the rest (using his self transport device).

Your post did give me a smile. Maybe the astronaut has enough change in the re-entry vehicle for an order of fries! I like the circus scene too but I think @M. Mitchell Marmel would say "not enough giraffes"

Layout scenes featuring Godzilla or menacing dinosaurs may have borrowed images stored in imagination from scary monster movies. I created a relatively "tame" Dinosaur Park on my layout; one corral for adults, another corral for juveniles. Visitors to the park watch the animal keepers feed the beasts. I placed the Lionel Dinosaur Train Set on the siding that serves the Dino Park, with a limited edition LCCA DINOSAUR gondola added to that set.

My great-grandson Matthew is a "Dinosaur Kid," and he invented a story line for the attached photos -- the dinos are on board the train for traveling to their summer feeding grounds -- returning to their "home" in the park when the season changes.

The Dino Park is located at the corner of the layout near the entry door to the train room. It's the first scene youngsters see upon entering the room.

Both of those "Caddys" are actually prewar Lincoln Continentals.

"Oooh-Oooh!" Here is another fun/silly scene I have completed this evening, Patrol Officers Toody and Muldoon are getting back into their car after their lunch break.

The line's busy so ET is having a cigarette break while waiting.

At our club we try to put in a few humorous vignettes so visitors can appreciate our work. 

Well fellows, its been awhile since anyone posted to this thread but I have really liked the prior photos and scenes.. So I thought with Halloween approaching, I would go down to track side along the Leonardtown and Savannah and see if anything unusual was going on...and here is what I found:

This lovely couple, were celebrating their 250th wedding anniversary on Halloween weekend...decided to take a short trip away from home (Small Town Cemetery) to celebrate the occasion.  Luckily the don't get "out" often!

Some residents of Small Town were excited, it seems that Royalty was coming to visit over the Halloween weekend.  I captured this picture of "The Count" arriving at the Depot.

This picture captured the fact that some of the Halloween arrivals did interrupt the normal functions of the RR a small amount.  When I took this picture I  talked to the unloading crew foreman and he told me that they had decided to "unload this one ....later!"
