Has anyone opened up the 990 Base? My question is my 990 base ground post is not fully tightened, I went from using a ring terminal to banana plug, that is when I noticed the small play on the ground post, I did manage to get it from spinning with a few twists, but I do not want to chance it if it is not fully seated with the 2 jam nuts, Works fine, no issues besides that, Don't really want to send it back to Lionel if I can help it, due it may be exchanged with another used base, mine is still looking new, like to keep it that way,  Thank You, Frank

That’s actually a “common” problem it pops up every now and again bout not all that often.

you can open the the bottom of the base and tighten the nuts. I had one completely break off the solder pad and had to re solder it but that the worse I’ve seen.

once the bottom is off it’s highly recommend to NOT flip the base over or the decorative greats from the top corners will fall out and can be a real PITA to get back in

@zhubl, I thank you for the reply, I think I will leave it alone, I did manage to get the ring post a bit more snug and then I put a star washer with the twist nut finger tight, hope for the best,👍
