Lionel J3a #5416 NYC Hudson

Front looks like a Kohl’s & Company 5,000 dollar model.....very well done.....did you use the glass slides like you turned me on to??.....I see nothing wrong with that.....you’re too hard on yourself!....looks awesome!...

And you're too kind @harmonyards.  It doesn't have a headlight lens yet, but yes, I'll use the slides that I mentioned to you.  The only thing that I really don't like is that I had to build up the headlight base a smidge so it would be closer to center (top to bottom).  If I moved up the headlight bracket, it caused the headlight to move upward.  I guess there are things that you have to be okay with.  I lost Lionel's number board so I had to make my own, but Lionel's were much better.  

Now I need to get the 773 over to you for the can motor transplant!

Larry, the engine looks great. The headlight numbers look factory. I assumed you had found your missing ones. Fine job!

I’ve conversed with Larry back and forth several times on his upgrades....they all look spot on!...he does really nice work.....but that branch of the NYC must have a purchasing agent that’s way over the top picky!!....keeps Larry on pins & needles 24/7.....I’d  been dotted his eye with a pipe wrench by now!!....😆😆😆😆😆.....as I’ve said before, awesome work Larry,....stop be so hard on yourself!!....

That's hilarious!!!  I am slowly learning to accept certain things...thanks to you!!  You're like my train shrink.    

@Norton - I did use your idea of taking a pic of the cab number and then made the headlight numbers in Word and Paint.  Love this forum.

Doesn't the Hudson look so much better with the correct headlight?  What was Lionel thinking when they picked that beast they used.  I had Harry Heike install a PSC headlight on my smoke box cover.  So much better looking.

I'd love to see a pic of  yours, Gary!  Yes, I love PSC's headlight.  But for some reason, I'm okay with the post war version??  I guess it's either the nostalgia from my younger days watching my 736-type Berks running around the Christmas tree or maybe the fact that they just look a bit better than the current version from Lionel.

@Larry Mullen question, is this the boiler front that was coming separate from the engine? I know Skip(NYC Fan) got the 5416 and is still stuck in the mud on the boiler front. He has a similar post title in the Lionel threads.

No, it is the one that came with the 5416.

Ah, so the other optional boiler front is still out in left field then, gotcha.
