I think I'm more concerned about the spark arrestors on top (I think that's what you call them) I hope the O&w version
has them.

I'm more concerned about them than I am about the flat spot in front of the cab.

Why, You can always add those!

FYI I doubt that those mufflers were original OEM equipment for this loco. So unless you are looking to model it today, I doubt that it will be on thse stacks... but I could be wrong.

Correct, i.e. NW2 units were NOT delivered new with those later, after-market, spark arrestors.

So unless you are looking to model it today, I doubt that it will be on thse stacks... but I could be wrong.

 

While we are on the subject of offering Lionel advice, let me chime in. Dave, the pictures you posted of the 116 are correct as of today, no doubt about it. But the current gray color is WAAAAY off! Far too light! The gray the NYO&W used was extremely prone to fading. The actual color is much deeper, almost gray blue. Check some of the NYO&W books and you will see what I mean. I grew up in NYO&W territory, and remember a billboard with either an FT or F3A on it. The gray was very dark, almost slate gray. Sadly, the billboard is long gone, just like the railroad.

Please, Lionel, go with the dark gray!

Well, I have mine in hand and ........ paint is way to light, stripe not on cab forward face, engineer and fireman side. Headlight is modern sealed beam not correct for the original NYO&W (Susquehanna RWY 1989) No Ph1 hood as previously discussed.

Ya know, ... "I know a lot about trains" as the Lionel folks stated. I've been a professional railroader for over 45 years, technical advisor to Hist societies etc. And a model railroader for 60 years.

I can't figure why Lionel can't get it right, for example, Erie Lackawanna Bicentennial with a black roof - NOT; never was; I ran them and took shots of them, I knew Wendell Simms, the guy in Hornell that painted them.

Conrail E8 wrong green ..... same story and on and on.

It doesn't take that much more effort to insure a prototype quality that the other scales have, if Athearn Genesis can get them right why is LIONEL in a vacuum?

Hey, pick up a Morning Sun Book for reference once in a while.

Well, you have confirmed my fears about this engine.  I don't have mine in hand yet, but nothing like paying money for something you know you will be disappointed with.

Anyone have a MTH Railking O&W NW-2 116 they want to sell. I know it is not perfect either, but for the money that it cost when it came out, I feel it was a better deal.
