LIONMASTER BIG BOY SMOKE QUESTION

You need a custom funnel to direct the smoke properly.  I believe @Rod Stewart may have 3D printed such a funnel.

It is 1932161.  I got it about 3 years ago.

I sure don't recognize that number; so I can't tell you if my funnel will fit it or not. I was expecting a 6-something number.

John makes a good point. POTRBZE; if you want to pop the shell off your engine and give us a few pictures of the smoke unit-funnel area, I can probably tell if it will fit?

FWIW this big boy is on page 78 of the 2019 Lionel catalog.

How hard is it to pop the shell on this thing? I am used to the smaller Lionel engines and I only bought this because I always wanted a big boy and I have liked it so far. And it works. I am reluctant to mess it up in any way since my local authorized Lionel repair shop closed in March.

This is the Lionmaster Lionchief Plus 2.0 version. I have one of these and it smokes well. The last I ran mine it seemed that more smoke came out of 1 of the stacks than the other but I noticed it got better once the wick got nicely saturated. You can add fluid to either stack on this model. Even though it goes to the same place I have better luck adding fluid to both stacks.

Brad, I run this engine frequently. It was only in the last month or two that I noticed that the smoke is only coming out of one stack. Logically, I thought that perhaps one of the stacks was blocked with something but it may be just the opposite I shall start filling both of them up.

Both stacks go into the same hole in the smoke unit, filling them separately won't accomplish anything.

A big thank you to all who responded.  As you might guess, I am (as my teachers told me) not mechanically inclined and reluctant to do radical (for me) anything in those installation instructions.  So this morning, I took a good look at those stacks and blew down them and now it is puffing away just as new.  Perhaps an air bubble or piece of dust got in there blocking that front stack.  Again, many thanks.

Good news! That’s about as simple a fix as you are going to get!
