Once a year I take a NJT commuter train from Bay Head, NJ to Newark and then catch an Amtrak train home to PA.
Excited and eager about today's trip, I got a prime window seat to observe the environment and think (more like dream) about my layout.
We pulled into Newark Penn where I had an hour layover. I got a slice of pizza and headed to the main waiting area to sit on the old PRR benches and listen to the click-flop, click-flop of the old style train board.
But much to my dismay, the board was gone! I felt a bit cheated out of my annual ritual. There was not even a giant electric board to replace it. Just tv monitors here and there.
I asked a cop about it and he told me they removed it a few months ago because it no longer worked right. Is there no nostalgia left in modern day railroading?
Very disappointed about the board... but enjoyed the ride and the sites.
