I really like traction tires!  Some trains, such as the President's Special, take a lot of pulling.  I have a 390 and a 392 with PS2 (I added the PS2) but no traction tires.  If the engine loses traction, somehow the system learns bad behaviors and jerks at low speeds.  Reloading the sound file fixes that problem.  I have tried non-slip stuff on the wheels - this works but wears off.  It seems that I could modify the wheels for traction tires by removing the tread and cutting (or grinding) off the width of a traction tire.  Original traction tire wheels have three little studs to hold the thinner tread, but I could glue the modified tread to the wheel.  Any reason this wouldn't work?  The worst that could happen is that I ruin some wheels.

I carefully removed the wheel treads and ground them to the proper depth.  The modification worked great and the traction tires are installed.  I also have questions on replacement traction tires since I need two or three more sets.  MTH lists DE-0000040 for Std gauge (40mm x 4mm).  I don't see these in stock anywhere.  DE-0000031 is almost the same size (38.6mm x 3.5 mm) costs only $1 instead of $3 and is in stock.  Anyone know if DE-0000031 would work?IMG_0947IMG_0949
