Brian, most of us have small areas to build layouts and sometimes tough negotiations to get real estate. Very impressive. Having the whole house to work with.......the ultimate. Great pics.......................Paul
Brian,
Enjoy it all.
MELGAR
thank you Paul and Melgar
Yes, from previous posts it appeared you had trains and layout stashed just about everywhere!! Since you appear to have just about one of everything I knew it had to be some serious space!! Thank you for posting!!!
Nice - It took me 1 bat, 3 rubber snakes and a couple of mice to confirm a firm foundation of the entire basement. You have succeeded beyond all Men's dreams.
Congratulations!
Nice trains but the best one is of your buddy. Reminds me of my Boxer named Joe, markings and all. Got him from a rescue and he was absolutely the best dog I ever had.
All I got is 1/3 of the basement for my trains and half the garage for my "toy car". The rest is "shared" i.e. my wife's .
"IZZY", Izabelle, My train buddy, she is also from a rescue.
She is like having another person around the house ...
Well she's beautiful. No other dog breed has the personality equal to a Boxer. Mine would even talk, almost like muttering words, was hilarious. Our current pitbull rescue talks a little bit, but is dumb as a rock.
thank you, she will definitely tell me what is on her mind !!
and really has some different face expressions to go with that...
Wow.
That's a TRAIN ROOM.
Lou1985 posted:This is my allotted space in our "crappy" basement. Everything must fit on the layout. No shelving. There are plastic bins under the layout for train box storage. I make sure I really want something to buy it, as I have limited space.
Well, I see plenty of space under the layout, so just buy more plastic bins.
I thought I had it made with the space to build a layout 18x40 but Brian makes that look like an N Gauge. Very nice and very impressive Brian. I am jealous.
Hi Brian, Izzy has that look of approval so you must be on the right track with your home layout. I really like the display over the sink. That is the ultimate statement. It is awsome and amazing on so many levels.
Wow! Very impressive Brian. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy.
Thank you Brian for sharing your awesome collection and train room.
Enjoyed it so much thanks Brian
Brian,
Could you get more light on the layout and your trains? All of the pictures you post of your train house are very cool, they are just a little hard to see.
Thank you,
Mike
Very impressive!!
Wonderful, Brian!!!
Looks like you could use a few more engines!! 😉
Larry
Brian,
Do you know Joe McDoakes?
Brian....awesome space and great pup!
Peter
Great Pictures Brian! Izzy is glad you got the new train room outside cause she was running out of places to sleep inside! LOL Now all you have to do is build a enclosed hallway from the house to the new train room and run trains from the house to there! LOL
Great train House! Thanks for sharing!
thank you everyone...
here is the start of it all when you could still see the walls...
a couple more pics from the past...
How long ago were these photographs taken, Brian?
thinking around 6 years ago, joined the forum
Nice Brian! Now the big question, when did you start collecting trains?
" Dad " started me out before I was born...
You did a lot in 6 years, but collecting trains all your life, you would accumulate a fair amount!!

Oh, my first thought was maybe she stayed in the train room when you occupied the doghouse like Scott Smith.
What, me worry?

BobbyD posted:Lou1985 posted:I don't know about "crappy" basement, very nice layout.
Well the basement doesn't have drywall, or a ceiling, or fancy lighting. Plus, being the only "unfinished" area in the house it's where we store things. Hence the term "crappy basement layout". It's got heat and A/C though.
Brian,
Thanks for sharing your trains with us! And your Izzy too! My layout is in a perpetual state of "in process" and consists of bare foam and wood with a few scattered buildings and vehicles. It measures 18' x 11' with a duck under to access the inside tracks of the three loop pattern. I figure if I cannot crawl under it, it's time to sell it all. I'm limited to a large room in the basement and a shelf or two in the den.
And you can't beat a rescue dog. Our Carmen was (as far as we could determine) a Border Collie/Shepherd mix and was the gentlest dog you could ask for while also being the most protective of our kids when they were small.

Looks real nice Brian, I can tell Izzy runs the layout, always good to have a confident brake man by your side. I did recognize a couple of engines. All the times of talking with you on the phone the photos you posted help me understand your layout now. Or I should say layouts. I the Alaska lines and your new area. Talk to you soon and look forward to seeing more pics. Nick T.

Out to new horizons....
Looks like you have been playing outside in the new train room! Nice!
Izzy and I have been tinkering around a little, been rainy here...
getting ready to move some coal...
Yes, move that coal!! We need more of it to generate enough electricity for everyone's air conditioners for the next 3 months!!

Hi Brian,
As I sit on my couch with my own rescue dog, Jack, I wanted to say everything was very impressive. This was my favorite picture along with Izzy.
I didn't notice if you said anything about the turntable, is it homemade?
Tom
thanks Tom... yes the turntable is homemade... and manual...
a circle cut out of blue foam, and a board screwed to a bearing,
you can see the bearing race in the picture...
still need to detail the sides of the TT bridge...
I want to make them look something like this one...
nmp... a very nice scene...
Brian, you should title it my train ROOM'S! LOL Great pictures!
a couple train bridge projects...
Just wonderful Brian!
Excellent, Brian!! So where is the prototype in the first photograph located!

nmp... a very nice scene... Thanks for the compliment! It started out as a Atlas o model and has been highly modified. It is powered by a 12v blend door motor from a Int. truck and a gear and pulley from an HP printer. Looks and runs reliably !
Clifford, That is one really handsome turntable you made!!! Pretty slick what you used to power it!
hello Clifford. thank you for letting us know who photo belongs to and info.
I really like your whole engine area !! Everything looks GREAT !!!
thank you for all the ideas for my area !
Brian,
Beautiful trains, wonderful train room, awesome dog!
to hot out, so we ran some trains...
IZZY helping me out thinking in the new train room...

Just wondering what Izzy came u with for the new train Room!?
Izzy is the mastermind of the whole operation!! Lock, stock, and barrel!! Brian is just the guy with the opposible thumbs Izzy needs to get the job done!
You could be onto something there Mark!
Nice Amtrak collection Brian! What engine is that in the second to last picture?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/O-Wil...8:g:wNYAAOSww01a~Ijl
a great pulling engine...
That's a lot of nice steam power, Brian! I see there was a mishap at the turntable, but the crane is ready to handle the challenge!!
That is a super selection, Brian!!!!
FL9Turbo, Your train room looks great!!! That is a lot of action and wonderful scenes!!!
FL9Turbo, Great looking train room! I see you also like some of the Menards stuff!

I also think its a great looking building! I want to get one also along with a fire station! Where I use to live they were right next to each other on the same block!

Great Train Room, jut fantastic!

LOL IN my garage, which the new train room is attached too has microwave, TV, Stereo, Coffee maker, beer fridge, but most of all a bathroom!
Just need to add a TV cable to the Train Room!
Brian, congratulations!! You have woman proofed the whole house!
Tom Tee, LOL
Mike, I have a nice old CRT TV in my new train room as you may recall that I said I don’t need. I can ship it to you!

Brian, all I can say is WOW! And I really mean WOW! WOW!
I'm with Mike once again!!

LOL ME TOO!
Look at that! Another very nice collection! I guess I am going to have to build some shelfs so some day I can fill them also! LOL Great looking guys!
Yes FL9Turbo2’s are great too! Lots of brass. If I built shelves, they would be full of ghost trains. Not much to see.
LOL ITs ok Mark I have the same problem here!~

I wish you the best on the new train building.
thank you GUITARMIKE !
did some track cleaning and some train running...
Train running looks good today, Brian!! I was thinking about cleaning when I was viewing all the photographs from the engine room a day or two ago.
Question about the Union Pacific cars. I am unfamiliar with these. Are they passenger cars that seat passengers on two levels, effectively doubling the capacity of one car?
they are like these Chicago & NW cars....
ride in a former Chicago & North Western bilevel "gallery" car ;
The video was great showing how the inside was laid out. I was picturing a full floor topside instead of it being open to the lower floor. Very neat!! Thank you for expanding my horizons!!
speaking of bi level cars... check these out...
Cool indeed!!!

WOW Brian....... what a collection, beautiful.
It's great seeing all the steamers as well, Brian!!
Brian, what a great collection! You must have grown up saying I want to own one of each engine! LOL
outside "My Train Room" ...
Brian: You win hands down for the most engines I've ever seen in one collection. !!! What a nice collection and layout you have.
thanks Cabinet Bob !
SURE DO!!!!
Those outdoor photographs are excellent!! I agree with Bob, I have never seen so many engines!!
Very nice.
GREAT train room and trains LEAPINLARRY !!!
Larry, quite the train room! Looks good from where I am sitting!
As someone once said....The one with the most toys wins!
My wife would be beside her self.....
Excellent, Larry!!!!
Can I assume your not married? Don
Brian, those pics were terrific, what a great way to show off your trains. You have them in the entire house. I'm lucky to have them in two rooms and the 2nd one is a bedroom that we are no longer using and we keep the door closed all the time. I'd love to have an entire house to put my trains. Everything is very nicely done and you show off your trains in a really nice setting. I like your shelfs that you have built for them. I loved the ones with your dog in them, I'd say the pooch loves the trains too and loves to show them off.
Great job and thanks so much for sharing, I'm jealous but thanks for a great tour.
thank you J.MOTTS !
Hello friends,
I have really enjoyed all of Brian's posts, and I am really impressed with his "Train Room." All the replies prompted by his topic and subsequent posts have also been very entertaining, but LeapinLarry has inspired me to post a reply of my own.
This Is My Train Room, all 12' by 10' feet of it (including the so-called work bench area), and clearly it is at the other end of the spectrum from those posted by Brian, LeapinLarry and others:
Some of you may recall a couple of these pix from another past Topic: This is my Work Bench."
I need another house!
Cheers!
Alan
Upstairs, I have 7 small layouts in four rooms (a fav movie). The bathroom is safe, and the kitchen is clear; though that's in constant peril of a test loop taking permanent root ..
...and there is also the hibernating 15x30 bench in the dungeon
...and now I don't feel as self-conscious about it all

Think of all of the extra options you can have if you remove that toilet, fridge and sink!
Tom
Alan, I have that same display "Engineer for Hire" Love it! Also while your train room may be at the other end of the spectrum it is no less than any other train rooms in this post. To each his own. I don't even have a train room. The way I look at it, if it's a room and it's got trains in it, it's cool!!!
Great looking train room! Love the layout!
FL9TURBO2, I really like your layout, the Big cranes, the neat pictures on the walls, and the ad for Symbicort, amazing, just kidding about the ad on your TV, however, if you pre-ordered any of the theatre cars, you would have quite a View. Thanks for posting your really nice layout...Leapin Larry

Thanks Larry you have a awesome train room like all of us you put your heart and soul into it, Its nice just to sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labor, I have several videos of the layout from a trains perspective I will add to this thread

Nice ADRIATIC! Nice to see you posting again, it's been awhile! But here is the big question, whats next the Victrola?
You know Brian, you must have every engine a man or woman would want! LOL Nice pictures again!
mike g. posted:Nice ADRIATIC! Nice to see you posting again, it's been awhile! But here is the big question, whats next the Victrola?
Hmmm. My brother in law just bought a Victoria for $20. (Worth $150....Cops shouldn't "steal" like that, lol)
Don't temp me like that Mike

When I decided to get back into trains in the 90's first I bought Williams brass and then Weaver started coming out with really nice brass engines so I bought them. Then it was the E8's and the passenger sets. The later I found out it was Mike that was behind those items. Whatever, whoever did it, the Weaver stuff was very cool. You have a very nice collection. Like me, most of your problems can be solved with more space and more shelving.
Brian, I am thinking you have forgotten who runs the house there! You might have got away with it if you would have some ice cream, But I think you forgot that also! LOL!
Brian
all I can say outstanding! You should be very proud of you achievement.
this area will eventually be part of the Alaska themed layout...
or ice cream...
Nice Brian! I think you have every train in the world! LOL
Brian, do you have a layout? All I have seen are close-up pictures of engines. Are you a collector instead of an operator?
Art
both, I like running trains especially being able to run something different pretty much everyday... guess I like variety...
I can run trains in every room of the house downstairs, with different layouts in each room, most of them connected to each other thru the walls. I have some of them taken apart right now, changing them to 072"r right now. Upstairs is a 12' x 35' room with a double track mainline running completely around the room. I also have a 24' x 48' room with a 8'x 30' extension I am working on... a little bit at a time... Izzy and I run different trains almost every night, usually what ever we are in the mood for that day...
Impressive, Brian!! And after running trains, Izzy gets ice cream!!!
YEP, me too...
Oh, I didn't know Izzy let you have any!!
guess that is my reward for getting it out of the freezer for her...
Good boy!!

I have only dated to dream of doing what Brian has done: trains in every room of the house interconnected! Holy Cow!
And I thought I had the most understanding and accommodating wife tolerating my tunnel through the wall in the basement so the trains can invade and take over the perimeter of the laundry room as well as the playroom in the basement.
What fun it must be for you, Brian, running your trains throughout your home.
Arnold
running trains and doing laundry...
coal yard... next level up above engine area...
Brian, sure looks great there! I cant think of anything much better then a good friend, Ice Cream, and running trains! I bet you had a blast!
can we run some more trains now.... pleeeeeeezz...
Looking good, Brian!
Izzy got her request with the train on the Christmas layout! Nice mountain there too!
Nice Brian! You know if it wasn't for you taking out the time to run trains Izzy might have left long ago! You are such a good dad for taking care of her! You can tell just by the look on her face that she love you so much, But I think she might need a little weening off the trains till you get your new layout built! LOL Remember small steps, a car here and a car there. You don't want her to go threw withdrawls! LOL
Keep up the great work!
Brian, Great photographs with the backdrops!!
thank you Mark... Marci is really starting to like taking the train pictures,
hopefully we will have many more coming soon...
she took these one's last night...
Wonderful pictures Brian! Tell Marci she is doing w great job with the pictures! Any update on the new train room?
Ditto on what Mike said! Please tell Marci we both think she is doing a great job!!
thanks Mark and Mike ! I will let her know...
haven't done a thing out in the new train building ... been working a lot, and dealing with all
the fun winter chores... this last ice storm, had part of a tree fell on the
train room, um, house, brakes went out in my van, dealing with my back, better now...
can't wait till warm weather is here !! hopefully will be getting back out there soon !
been stocking up on gargraves track over the winter...
Brian, sorry to hear about the tree! I hope there wasn't to much damage!
As for the new train building, Just think of all the help you have this summer! Not only do you have Izzy, but you have Marco to hold your hand and keep you on track! LOL
I'm glad your back is better, Sorry about the tree and van. When it rains, it pours!!
Brian
I’m also sorry to hear about that tree. My favorites in this set is the CSX coke hoppers thanks for posting them
Very nice, wow.

Aha! You do have some Fastrack, Brian! I really like the O36 manual track switches. I use one in my return-loop and the "spring switch" (non-derailing function) works flawlessly. I have a memory of watching a prototype spring switch work but I cannot now remember where it was.

intermodal time...
LOL Brian, you have enough containers to supply the whole world with supplies! WOW Man does that look GREAT!
I know this question comes up on this forum from time to time, but judging by the amount of trains that you own,you definitely would be the person to ask. Have you kept the boxes or thrown them out?
a morning freight at sunrise... heading into town...
a late night passenger train pulling into the station...
ConrailFan posted:I know this question comes up on this forum from time to time, but judging by the amount of trains that you own,you definitely would be the person to ask. Have you kept the boxes or thrown them out?
I throw most of mine out, or I would have to have another building to store all them...
I do save some engine boxes for shipping in case I have to send them out for repair...
Thanks Brian! Good to know!
If my place was like this, I would never leave the house! Vacationland at home!
