Well the basement doesn't have drywall, or a ceiling, or fancy lighting. Plus, being the only "unfinished" area in the house it's where we store things. Hence the term "crappy basement layout". It's got heat and A/C though.
Brian,
Thanks for sharing your trains with us! And your Izzy too! My layout is in a perpetual state of "in process" and consists of bare foam and wood with a few scattered buildings and vehicles. It measures 18' x 11' with a duck under to access the inside tracks of the three loop pattern. I figure if I cannot crawl under it, it's time to sell it all. I'm limited to a large room in the basement and a shelf or two in the den.
And you can't beat a rescue dog. Our Carmen was (as far as we could determine) a Border Collie/Shepherd mix and was the gentlest dog you could ask for while also being the most protective of our kids when they were small.

Looks real nice Brian, I can tell Izzy runs the layout, always good to have a confident brake man by your side. I did recognize a couple of engines. All the times of talking with you on the phone the photos you posted help me understand your layout now. Or I should say layouts. I the Alaska lines and your new area. Talk to you soon and look forward to seeing more pics. Nick T.

Hi Brian,
As I sit on my couch with my own rescue dog, Jack, I wanted to say everything was very impressive. This was my favorite picture along with Izzy.
I didn't notice if you said anything about the turntable, is it homemade?
Tom
thanks Tom... yes the turntable is homemade... and manual...
a circle cut out of blue foam, and a board screwed to a bearing,
you can see the bearing race in the picture...
still need to detail the sides of the TT bridge...
I want to make them look something like this one...
nmp... a very nice scene...

nmp... a very nice scene... Thanks for the compliment! It started out as a Atlas o model and has been highly modified. It is powered by a 12v blend door motor from a Int. truck and a gear and pulley from an HP printer. Looks and runs reliably !
Clifford, That is one really handsome turntable you made!!! Pretty slick what you used to power it!
hello Clifford. thank you for letting us know who photo belongs to and info.

That's a lot of nice steam power, Brian! I see there was a mishap at the turntable, but the crane is ready to handle the challenge!!
