I have a new Kitchen car. It loudly bangs and screeches while moving. When standing still, it runs a dialog between the cook and the diners. My only wish is that the dialog could be louder...it's somewhat muted.
Has anyone changed the shell on one of these? I've unscrewed the tabs that run along the sides but it remains stuck at the ends. I'm a newbie, so please be gentle! Thanks.
Swing each truck. You will see a hole at each end of the floor. There is a larger screw located down in the hole. Use a long Phillips screw driver and turn CCW to remove. Older PS-1's only have 1 large screw. Design was changed on these.
Very simple.
Thank you very much. Of course it worked. My next challenge is to attach a new shell that has no posts for screws. It's just an empty box. The good news is that it fits perfectly. I am thinking about using L-shaped connectors that I could glue to the inside of the shell and onto the floor of the chassis, where it wouldn't be seen when the doors are open. Has anyone done anything like this?

With electronics and speaker inside, the doors should be closed at all times. What shell are you installing?
The matrix is very helpful. Thank you. I am trying to install a Weaver PS-1 40-foot boxcar shell, UP.
You could also consider adding wireless remote control to the car. This really enhances the usability of the car, you can "tune" the different sound sets and adjust the volume remotely.
Remote Control for Lionel Sound Boxcars
Very cool. Speaking of which, I have an old (1993-94) GP7 diesel that I'd like to upgrade for sound beyond the horn and bell. Is there a fix for that? Or do I need to search posts or start a new one? Thanks.

I'd start a new thread so your request doesn't get lost.
I have to try all 4 setting on my new PS-1 40' box cars.
