Just opened my brand new MTH Monon F-3 AA diesel set (MTH 20-20436-1and placed it on the layout I am developing which at present is on the basement floor. I have sucessfully run various other MTH locos (steam and diesel, Premiere and Railking) on every section of the layout without serious problems. Running with DCS 4.2, TIU, separate brick transformers for TIU and track power via Fixed Input #1.
When I first tried to run it, I set it on the track, turned on track power, added the engine (it went to address 5), hit start up, the engine powered up with normal sounds, flashing head light, etc. and then I gave it some throttle. It moved about 6 inches or so and then stopped and suddenly track power was off -- circuit breaker on brick was tripped. The locos had not derailed and I couldn't see anything touching track.
Now, things are even worse--see attached video. I put the locos on a section of track, apply power and several seconds later (without hitting start up on the remote) the diesel powers up with normal sounds and lights and then a few seconds later (without giving any throttle) power again ? shorts off -- you can see all the turnout lights go dead at about 32/33 seconds. The lights in the diesel of course stay on for a few more seconds as one would expect.
I'm very new at all this and hopelessly a neophyte re all things electrical.
I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas whatsoever. Best case would be an experienced MTH/DCS aficionado reading this and saying--Oh, yeah, that's happening because of "x" and usually if you do "y" it will be fixed. Well, I can dream, right?
