Interesting, that is the first one of those I have seen. Thanks for the picture gunny. I do try to stay off ebay since my "willpower" is much greater than my "won'tpower." I received an order of about a dozen new Lionel Flyer freight cars about 4 months ago and none had the orange paste over labels. The reason I got so many is Lionel now makes the new box cars and hoppers in multiple road numbers, an example of my willpower at work.

The newest run of 3 bay hoppers I bought have far better printing and more of the fine lettering than prior cars. The physical details are unchanged. Also Lionel finally got the wheel gauge correct on the newest cars. For over a decade everything but engines was gauged 1/10" narrow. It was only noticeable when someone like me tried to run them through scale gapped turnouts and crossings.

What color does Lionel use on the O Gauge items?  If it's orange (like their favorite color), then it may be that they won't invests in AF Yellow ones.   AF is a far second place in their train division, so why have a special colored label for a small run of mis-labeled boxes?  No big deal, but interesting nonetheless.

I wanted to reply with a quote from "phrankenstign", but it's not clear how.  Why did the Forum change that feature?  Sometimes a change isn't called for, folks!  Change for change's sake is non-productive and sometimes aggravating.

Why stick-on labels?  My guess is that Lionel is re-using boxes that were formerly for other things and it's much cheaper to simply apply another label.    Can you peel it off a bit to see what's underneath?  As to the orange color, I got nothing.

They have always used stick-on labels for like the last 30 years.

The title of this thread has the  word "SOLVED" added.  However the original question wasn't really answered.  Why was an orange label used rather than another yellow one used to correct the error?  I still think I may have guessed at the correct reason.  I think the orange label sheets were loaded into the printer accidentally rather than yellow label sheets.  I don't have any proof, but the only way to find out for sure is if a Lionel employee came forward to explain why.  Only then can the mystery be truly solved.

Today only.  I doubt it will be seen that way after today.  Search engines are a wonderful thing!

btw "enstign" is not a last name.  I've never had anyone call me Mr. enstign before.  It looks and sounds very weird to me.  However, I'm fine with it.  (Others have called me Phrankie, phrankie, Phranky, phranky, Phrank, phrank, Phrankenstign, and phrankenstign.  One guy even misread it, thought it was "prankenstign", and came to the conclusion I must be some kind of prankster!)  The American English language amuses me, due to its roots from so many different lands.  The fact there are so many different ways to write the same sounds in our language prompted me to come up with my own, unique, alternative spelling for "Frankenstein"---my favorite, classic, horror movie of all time from 1931.  I used the "ph" for the "f" sound, the long "i" sound as in the word "sign" (including the silent "g"). and then added the "t".  Since then, I've used that username in countless accounts around the web.  Prior to coming up with it, I'd never been able to use my first name nor last, because they weren't unique.
