Paying homage to the band Squeeze and their 1980 hit from my high school days.

In my quest to get a remote controlled NJ Transit locomotive, I'm looking at the Lionel GP 40 NJ Transit loco from its pre-LionChief RTR set (6-30185) and the standard GP 38-2 Lion Chief  that Lionel has in its RTR sets nowadays.  Are the dimensions and connecting points the same in both locomotives?  I figured that I could go the route of purchasing one the the LionChief units and place that shell over the GP 40 motors, and then try to sell the shell and motor that I no longer need,

Another thought is highly unlikely but doesn't hurt to ask.  For those who may have these models, are the connection points and size/dimensions for MTH AEM-7 Amtrak & SEPTA units the same as the Atlas ALP-44?  My plan would be the same to swap out the Atlas shell on to the MTH motive power.  I could also just bide my time and wait for one of the old MTH NJ Transit units (20-5529-1, 20-5691-1) to go on sale, whenever that maybe, and drop a PS3 module in it.

Speaking of the PS3 module, one of the electronic experts at my club looked and confirmed for me that he couldn't place a PS3 module into my Atlas ALP-44 due to the two motors laying horizontal as opposed to vertical inside the unit.
