I have this steam engine made back in 1981. It's very cool with smoke coming out from down below on both sides of the engine. The sounds are very limited as I believe this was an early attempt at train sounds. It ran great but just stopped. I'm not tech savy but I noticed that whenever I put the engine back on the track it shorted out. All the wheels were on the track. After playing with the flimsy wires that connect to the cab one of the wires came loose. Before it stopped working smoke stopped coming out from one side of the train, and to top it off a pair of wheels came off the cab. I think it needs a major tune up lol. So my question is there anyone familiar with this engine and that can do repairs? I really like the engine because of the smoking capability. The tender is plastic. Can the engine run without the cab? I don't care about the sounds. If possible I would replace the tender with a newer metal one. I'd like to have it run again because of the side smoking. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks and have a great weekend.

TAKI53: Chuck Sartor has already answered you and can certainly fix this engine for you.

FWIW: Yes, this engine had a rudimentary "sound system" Fundimensions sold as "The Mighty Sound of Steam". Most of us likely call it the "Mighty Sound of Static". This engine will indeed run without the tender. The wires you see between the engine and tender are for the SOS board.

Your loss of smoke coming from one smoke chest cylinder is likely due to a piece of tubing coming loose from the smoke chamber and can be replaced.

This engine is primarily based on a Lionel Postwar design chassis and is always "fixable".
