Here is my contribution to switcher Saturday...... My reconfigured industrial park, still thinking about what to put in the end, opposite the warehouse. ? Not sure if I want a straight spur or curved like the warehouse. That plywood is roughly 2X8'

Happy Switcher Saturday everyone!!  Wonderful photos and videos!!

Rich - congrats on the new locomotive purchase!!  Road locomotives are much needed so the switchers can have cars to switch in and out of all those industries   No crime committed in purchasing a road engine.

Here are some re - peats.  Looking forward to next week's 3 year anniversary SWSAT!!  Have a great week everyone!IMG_0643IMG_0278IMG_0734IMG_0773IMG_0175

Always love photos of your layout Patrick. How did the foreign power wind up on the FSJR?

RSJB18 -  I'm thrilled that you like photos of my layout!  Thanks so much!!  As for the foreign power, it's actually a leased unit ( NW2? ) to help with the power shortage on the FSJR.  Traffic volumes are way up lately. :-)

looks GREAT Clem !!     nice video... I vote for curved spur, buildings on each side of it.

room for lot's more switch action...      can't wait to get back up and run some trains...

Inside an Atlas SW9

Been eyeing a couple of these switchers without the TMCC electronics with the intention to upgrade them with ERR components.  How's the performance of these horizontal motored Atlas types under CC?  The horizontal layout seems to be preferred method nowadays, like on 3rd Rail engines.

Bruce

The Atlas SW horizontal drive has been around since 1998/99.  Without more modern speed control, they operate well at slow switcher speeds and back and forth.  Early models had Dallee electronics that were poor.  As pictured with TMCC controls they operate well.

Edit/Add:  Biggest problem with an upgrade to the way the Atlas SW's  are today is relocation of the speaker in the fuel tank.  A time consuming project.

Thanks for the reply!  Judging from the pics an ERR upgrade will take up much less room inside the shell.  It might give just enough room up front for mounting a 1 1/4" cube speaker in there as well, which would save modding the fuel tank.  If you are happy with it under TMCC then ERR should really take it to the next level of performance.  Hopefully I get to test that out if the deal on the switchers happens.

I own both Sunset (horizontal drive) and MTH (two vertical drives) diesel locomotives. As far as I can tell, the slow speed operation of the MTH locomotives is no different than the Sunsets. Maybe I'm not picky enough!

Thanks Melgar

I too have had favorable experiences with MTH vertical drive switchers.  Whether under CC or not, they are smooth as butter at a snail's pace.  BTW, I also have one of the Atlas USRA 0-6-0's....don't suppose we'll see anything new in steam from Atlas O anytime soon.
