TMCC signal(?)

I'm not sure if I have a question or just an observation.  I had some customizing done on Lionel's 773 Hudson (6-38096).  It's strange...when I first start it up, all sounds are on and if I address the engine and just touch the dial, it will take off.  But if I just restart it, it's silent, the engine can be addressed and will just crawl when I touch the dial/accelerate.  But every time I have to give it power, power down the transformer and then power it back up if I don't want it to speed.

TMCC locomotives must detect the TMCC signal when they power up.  If no signal is detected, they power up in conventional mode.  The fact that the sounds come on right away means the Hudson is coming up in conventional.  I suspect that you have the TMCC Command Base and the transformer (probably a power brick, so that track power will come on instantly at power-up) plugged in so that they both come on at once.

When you do your restart, the locomotive is powering up with the Command Base already on.

Try applying power to the Command Base first, then adding track power and the Hudson should behave itself.

That did it!  I *think* this is the only engine I have that behaves this way, but it's working perfectly now.
