Video clips of my Atlas NJ Transit ALP-44 with Comet coaches and my MTH Tri-Rail running the paces in both directions last month at my club layout in the Westfield Mall in Plantation, Florida. The modular O layout is approximately 18' x 18' in size and along with a modular HO layout utilized the space at the mall store bay.  You’ll notice that while running the NJT consist in push mode that the wrong pantograph was up (I noticed that after the filming). The Atlas unit is a conventional loco so I don’t get to see the scale speed, but my guess is that I was running it a scale speed of 70 mph based upon the 55-65 MPH speed that I was running the Tri-Rail DCS set earlier that same afternoon.

First the Atlas unit:

Then the MTH Tri-Rail:

Also for those who like European models, you’ll notice the MTH Premier Crocodile locomotive #13257 (owned by another club member) running on the inner track pulling some freight cars.  A beautiful piece of engineering indeed.  Very expensive too, as I found out.

P.S.  Both of my model train clubs are non-profits, and this one, the Florida Citrus Model Train Society, had modular set-ups that we travel around Broward County with.  We’ve been lucky enough to have a store bay in a local mall for less than market rate to help with foot traffic, so as paying tenants come and go, we move around to different parts of the mall.  Not a problem at all and to me the best part is seeing the eyes and reactions of the youngsters (boys and girls) when they walk by and see the display, pulling their parent’s hands with them into the store bay.
