what is your "strong suit"?

My most amazing ability is to take about three times the time that I had allocated for any train project.  I go downstairs to work on the layout, a locomotive, scenery or whatever, and no matter what my time planned for the project, I run over, way over.  I can never understand how some little project takes forever, with all the errors, to finally accomplish.

Rebuilding prewar and postwar Lionel Hudsons.  To all original parts and specs.  Lots of fun!

Changing my mind.  As soon as I create something, I think about how much better it could have been if I would have .....  I built an intricate layout full of track and never got to do the scenery before I decided to start over again with a completely new track plan.

Trial and error. It may not work the first time around but give me enough time and I'll have 'em running.

Wiring, working with tubular track, and servicing post-war trains.

I know one thing that in NOT my strong suit, and that is scenery!

I cannot really boast about a strong suite. Seems I am constantly learning even after 30 years of modeling!

But I do know I like kit building, scenery, train repair, and of course running trains.

I dislike wiring, benchwork, and cleaning up!

Like a lot of guys, I feel, sadly, that my strong point is how quickly I can make out a check while leaning on a dealer's table at a train show.

But because I'm genuinely curious about this topic, I'll post a serious answer....if i had to pick something I'm "decent" at -- of course, this is all relative! --  it would probably be scenery.  It's certainly not carpentry!

I'm great at being jealous of some of the fantastic scale layouts depicted on this forum.

I'm also great at dreaming mine will one day look as good as theirs.

I have learned a great deal from members of the Forum, from TMCC Control to wiring a layout.  I am very proud of drinking a cup of coffee while running trains.

Procrastination. Boy I'm glad that I'm not the only one with this illness.  Maybe we can have a separate forum section on all the things we will get around to doing someday.

For all the years in the hobby, I still have only rudimentary electrical, woodworking,  and scenery building skills. My "fix-it" skills are sorely lacking.

I'm good with photography of real trains if that counts.

I'm good at hodling a remote in my hand and enjoying the moment.

The range of expertise on this forum is a real treat.

my strongest suit iz watching t.v. i am the best there iz at that. next comes fishing for salmon and stealhead.

I have been told that I have too much time on my hands in regards to my trains. If that is the case, since I enjoy my trains so much I could use even more time to go and play. So I guess my stong suit is having lots of time to do what i love.

At times I am certain that I am the only person in our house who can tell when the dog has to go out and, from the way she is looking at me right this moment, a trip outside would appear to be necessary.    Excuse me please...

I'm good at fixing things..in general. Of course, if I can't fix it, I can mess it up so bad no one else can either.

"Trying" would certainly be the operative word in my case but, not to worry John; I won't give up the day job.

My strong suit is K-Line product knowledge, researching the history of my favorite railroads, O-27, semi-scale or whatever you want to call it, finding gems in the junk boxes under the tables at the train shows and being frugal with my train $.

My strong suit is being a pain in the @$$! 

I am just too stubborn, or deluded to turn down a "Mission Impossible" job, will work at it for hours before arriving at a solution. As an example, I have a RailKing subway power car that originally had a 5 volt board, toasted, and I got a 3 volt board with "Hirose" connectors, and shoehorned it into the power car. Talk about ten pounds of ...... in a five pound bag. Sheesh. The last 5 volt to 3 volt upgrade I did was on a Premier Challenger, put the board in the tender, shake it and you were done. This one is a LOT different.
