My most amazing ability is to take about three times the time that I had allocated for any train project.  I go downstairs to work on the layout, a locomotive, scenery or whatever, and no matter what my time planned for the project, I run over, way over.  I can never understand how some little project takes forever, with all the errors, to finally accomplish.

Like a lot of guys, I feel, sadly, that my strong point is how quickly I can make out a check while leaning on a dealer's table at a train show.

 

But because I'm genuinely curious about this topic, I'll post a serious answer....if i had to pick something I'm "decent" at -- of course, this is all relative! --  it would probably be scenery.  It's certainly not carpentry!

I am just too stubborn, or deluded to turn down a "Mission Impossible" job, will work at it for hours before arriving at a solution. As an example, I have a RailKing subway power car that originally had a 5 volt board, toasted, and I got a 3 volt board with "Hirose" connectors, and shoehorned it into the power car. Talk about ten pounds of ...... in a five pound bag. Sheesh. The last 5 volt to 3 volt upgrade I did was on a Premier Challenger, put the board in the tender, shake it and you were done. This one is a LOT different.
