As promised on a another thread, it's 3 weeks before York and time to make the biannual pre-York breakfast announcement.

Thursday morning, October 18th at 0730 come join your fellow York attendees for breakfast at the Round-the-Clock Diner.

First York? Traveling alone? Traveling in a group? Join us! It's always a fun time. We usually have a group of 20-30 folks. Come put a face with a name, catch up with friends and enjoy the pre-York excitement.

The Round-the-Clock Diner is located at 222 Arsenal Rd on Route 30, just east of I-83.

Please let me know so I can let the manager know how many tables to save together.

So if breakfast is at 7:30, what do you do for the other 4 hours before the meet.

Make fun of those who can't get up early enough to make the breakfast!

Personally, I go to the fairgrounds and take a nap and read for awhile until 11:00 or so and then head into the Orange Hall to socialize until the meet opens.

I'll also stop by the hotel I'm staying at just to verify I have a room before coming back to check-in later in the afternoon.  After the plumbing debacle a few years ago at the La Quinta taking 10 minutes to stop at the hotel on my way to fairgrounds is a price well worth paying.   If problems, I'd much rather make other arrangements before the meet starts versus late in the afternoon before going to Quaker Steak and Lube.

Peter, Thanks for organizing the breakfast. I'm sad to say I've decided to cancel my trip to York. Breaking away from work this time of year is always a stretch for me, and it's just not in the cards this time.  I'll be back to York in April, which will be the 40th anniversary of my first York meet. In 40 years, I've attended more than I've missed, so I feel fortunate. Have fun.

Marty,

As I have posted in the past.....

After breakfast, if you get to the Fairgrounds with nothing to do until noon....

Stop by and visit my portable layout.  Trains running, whistles blowing, DCS dcsing...running from 9:30ish to 11:30ish

I've been bringing my portable layout to York for a few years now.  Gives me something to do as we wait for the grand opening, (weather permitting.)

Last York the weather was lousy... I decided not to set it up... sure enough, it rained!  Some members came by anyway... glad you stopped to visit.. I really hope we have sunny skies this time around!

Just look for the big grey van, with its teeny tiny layout, about 100' in front of the purple Hall doors in the RV parking area!

Stop by and say, "Hi"... no headcount required   I'll be lookin' for you Marty!

As always, Peter, hope the piggyback on your thread is OK! (and that you stop by for a visit!)

I'm getting very excited.....leaving Weds mid-afternoon and I hope to catch most of the DCS dinner meeting (all depends on the DC/Balto traffic).....Looking forward to seeing everyone... Here are some pics from April 2018:

Safe travels to all.....

BTW...sign up is never closed....if you decide Thursday AM, just show up.....the more the merrier!

Peter

8 minutes away for me this time around. Hopefully there won't be an accident like there was tonight on Route 30. It was supposed to take me about 45 minutes from the Toy Train Museum to my hotel, but it took about an hour and about 10 minutes give or take. It didn't look like anyone was hurt in the accident, but it really put traffic at a stand still.

The Toy Train Museum was great. Got to see Jack Lynch, Mike Wolf, and Ryan Kunkle speak about up coming stuff. I think Jack and Ryan spoke about the same time, Mike only spoke about 12 minutes. Seemed that the questions really only went to Mike and Ryan, though Ryan got way more questions. It was not quite what I expected. Maybe someone can explain it all to me tomorrow morning.

Great breakfast again Peter, this time I didn't have to sit at the little kids table, lol. Was great to meet Bryan In Ohio, and find out that there was not just the prison, but the strip club on his layout as well.

I'll be sure to run into everyone else somewhere along my wanderings today/tomorrow, and of course Saturday. Someone tell Alan Arnold not to use up all the maple syrup. There may have to be a new Ameri-Towne Maple Syrup Distributors to be built. What would the building be called, "Sticky's Syrup Warehouse, Maple Syrup Distributors" lol. Just kidding.

Great talking at my table, and great to have Peter come down and do the educational business of knowing the great post-war guessing game. I said it was like listening to my Uncle Dick who can rattle off more things than I would ever even dream of knowing about anything ever produced by Lionel, American Flyer, or otherwise.

Great having b’fast with you Dave, and listening to all the “lore.”

Peter, thanks so much for being the laboring oar to make the breakfast gathering happen.

Now in Silver Hall with coffee waiting for the halls to open on my first York. Taking this opportunity to kiss my $20 bills goodbye since we will be parted in a little while.😋

I reserved a room there for next April since I did not make York this time around due to shingles ( not the ones you put on your house)!!

Might go to Allentown on Nov. 11th.

Ted - sorry to hear you had the shingles - hope you heal quickly!  I just booked my room there for next April and October.  Nice hotel and you can walk to the OGR dinner..or better yet---walk "home"

Peter - thanks again for organizing another breakfast!  I had a blast!

EddieM - I was wondering what happened as I was looking for you before the meet opened.  Figured it was the darn wind.  I hope to see it in April.

I look forward to seeing everyone in April!

Thanks to all for the kind words.....see all of you in April.

From a first timer,

It was great to accept and enjoy your invitation to breakfast at York.  Also Peter, thank you for your sage advice you gave to my wife and me as to a good strategic order to walk the halls.  My wallet tells me your strategy was great for the hobby.  You are a great ambassador to this forum based on my experience.  It is clear you have great passion.  Great to meet you and look forward to making more new friends next fall.  Too busy building/installing my new purchases to be ready for spring.  One of the perks to living inn Florida.
